dsl versus cable

can someone please help me?  I can  reinstall winmx when I am connected to the internet with cable; but when I try reinstalling using dsl I cannot.  when I try dsl it says I am unable to recieve incoming tcp connections from the internet & I can do nothing about it

your cable modem is probably just a modem, where from the description of symptoms your dsl one appears to allso have router functionality & probably requires you to forward ports.
