Sometimes it uploads like a rocket other times, no uploads.
« on: January 26, 2006, 07:43:25 pm »
Yesterday I bought a new NIC card and installed it.
when I did, WinMX uploaded every file within 2 tries with lightning speeds.
then after I did the windows updates it craped out. not uploading any files.
So I reformated my HDD and the problem persist.
On the first beta release some months ago, it fixed the upload issue but a month later I had to format the HDD. I heard there is a file to put in C:\windows\system32 that fixes this. I vaugely remember doing that and it work but I cant remember what the file was. Anyway I just want my winmx to upload!! Downloads are OK. P.S. where can I get the first beta fix from here? Is it archived?
Please advise.

Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2
Realtek RTL8169/8110 Family Gigabit Ethernet NIC
no router used
ongoing issue
changes made? Reformatted HDD

dunnyrummy,

This sounds like you originally had maybe a XP firewall enable itself on ya, its  common with updates that it sets itself to 'Protect' when you had it off.  Check that is either disabled, (with a different firewall already installed) or set the ports in it that WinMX uses.

https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/firewalls-xp-sp2.html

Once you have those set up, or the XP firewall off again.  Be sure to check that your WinMx has ports set also.

Settings > Internet Connections > Incoming TCP.. set this to either 6699 or a port of your choosing that is also in the firewall.

and.. IN/OUT UDP ports ...set this to 6257 of again one of your choosing.

Also if you have Norton Internet Security ..be sure that not only is WinMx allowed in the firewall but also in the Worm Protection.

Let me know if this helps or not.
I am unclear on what you mean exactly by the 'first beta fix' from here also..
