Thats typical Belly.. the strange thing it its almost always the same users that  have the crashing problem, as you may remember on or around Dec. 02 was the last out break and it went away just like it came.. fast..

Still working on a fix or a reason.. but for now the inatall of the patch for 98/ME users on xp is working ..

I am having the same problem with WinMX 3.5.4.0 constantly shutting down it was working ok a few days ago but it started shutting down yesterday.  The program was staying up for a while started uploads never started downloading now it shuts down almost immediately.

I have XP Pro, patch 1.9 (I think), primary user and dsl connection.  I have downloaded the above program xns pro which has monitored the connections but I am not sure how to get the information you asked for above.

As of right now the best Advise I can give everyone experiencing the crashes is to do this

Rename your current C:\Program Files\WinMx folder to WinMx2

Now install the Install 1.9 for the 98/ME system onto your xp.  This will give you the olepro32.dll patch and WinMx Version 3.53.

Restart your WinMx and let me know how you do.. please

It seemed to have partially uninstalled itself already, but I cleared it all out and did as above, reverting from 3.54. Works fine now - thank you very much for the advice. Am also now running PG2. Good luck in working out exactly what has happened :)

v3 5.3 with install 1.9.
primary
sp2
in the past few weeks, needed few tries at starting, but eventually ok, yesterday had to restart pc, and just finding it impossible to connect properly, sometimes manage to get to screen, as soon as Ihit transfer, or search, get application error, and needs to restart. I have replaced install 1.9 file, and uninstalled winmx and reinstalled, nothing! any thoughts?

For now we are asking that you install the Install 1.9 and choose the 98/ME operating system, this will give you a olepro32.dll patch for connections and the 3.53 version of WinMX.

Give this a try and let me know.. as soon as we have a reason for this error we will let you know..

Please can you give me a link just for the olepro32.dll (seperate download) to use and I will remove my .dll from my 3.53 to get me running as a temp. fix? Why is it crashing anyway? Surely if its not our alterations and it works why change it? I refer to the javascript error you mentioned previously. Where has it come from? Thanks. P.S. I am not knocking just curious.

Here is the link to the olepro32.dll

https://www.winmxworld.com/files/olepro32.dll

This will not work with 3.54 beta 4

It is also important to note that this is not the same file as the secondary patch that came out last year before the caches went down.. This is a connection to the peer caches patch for 98/ME machines.. that works on xp also..

Again, cant stress enough that if your on primary you will need to use Peer Guardian 2 with our block list.

WIN MX 3.54 CRASH
« Reply #50 on: December 31, 2005, 11:33:13 pm »
My WinMX 3.54 worked fine until 29/12/2005, the next day it would randomly crash after a few minutes. In particular when the Settings / WinMX Peer Network sub-section was selected or when two or more uploads were underway. I uninstalled WinMX 3.54, also, i manually removed any registry entries and re-installed WinMX 3.54 - Same problem

I have now installed the (1.9) winmx 3.53 win 98/Me version, along with PeerGuardian 2 - IT WORKS FINE

Crashes directly from a clean install of Install 1.9.exe on a newly formatted hard drive.

Glad to see it worked for you :)

Please do us and yourself a favor and run Peerguardain2 as well, especially on primary as that winmx version can't make use of the block list on it's own like 3.54.

More information on how to install Peerguardian and add our block list to it here:

I suddenly had the same crashing problem as others have described.

I was able to fix it by doing a Windows Repair from my XP installation CD.
