Artists Positive Over P2P

It looks like the lawyers are the only ones who want to continue with lawsuits, the artists are not behind them.

Playboy interviewed Nicholas McCarthy and Alex Kapranos, two of Franz Ferdinand’s band members. The two seem to have a healthy and realistic view on filesharing.

NICK: I’m not quite sure. I think if you’re in one place, it’s nice to have an actual album, a record sleeve, the lyrics. So there will always be that element of wanting to own something and not just have a song on a hard drive. But I know I travel a lot - and I’ve always liked to travel light - I don’t like to have a lot of posessions. What I do is buy a CD and stick it in and rip it. Then I can listen to it and have it with me even if I lose the CD or give it away.

ALEX: I like the idea that, because of downloading, people are going to buy songs only if they are good. I think that’s a positive thing. It means lazy bands aren’t going to get away with giving you one hit single and an album full of filler. We like the idea that every song should stand up in its own right so you don’t have to listen to a song in the context of an album to understand it. I suppose that’s why I’m sympathetic to the download environment.

I,m actually suprised they can boast openly about recording a cd and then giving it away something they have no legal right to do under fair use.
This label is even more pro sharer

Nettwerk Music Group bosses are to fund a Texas fans legal campaign against corporate chiefs, who are suing him for damages after he illegally downloaded Lavigne's SK8ER BOI hit, among other songs.

NMG chief executive officer Terry Mc Bride says, "What does this litigation do? It destroys people's lives. It's not a tool that should be used except in the most drastic circumstances."

I agree, simply allowing the lawyers to have a financial feeding frenzy is irresponsible, did these people ever have childhoods themselves ?

This isn't really news, it's been generally-accepted knowledge that most of the artists don't really care, and the ones who do don't underestand the full picture.

Hey it was a slow day ..lol

I,m sure its news to some users here but yes your correct, we often see more outrage from the artist come royaly payment negotiations/discussions, which are few and far between.
