Can't open winmx

I have a problem, every time i try and open winmx, it comes up with an error, something like this :-

WinMX Application has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience.

And then shut's down, help needed please.

Dawny what patch are you using to connect your WinMx, also how long ago did you get it?

Are you using IE7?
Do you have any incompletes that are possible fakes?

What version of WinMx do you have ?

Erm, don't know what patches i'm using - how do i find that out?

I don't think i have any fakes.

How do i find out what version of winmx i have? i think it may be winmx353, don't know if that's right tho.

Sorry, not amazingly computer minded, but working on that!!

Ok Dawny,

Lets just start over here.

I want you to download a patch from this link for your WinMx

Grab the one that says 'Already Have WinMx Installed Get This'. 
Turn WinMx Off and Install this.

Restart Your WinMx, this should take care of the problem.

IE7 = Internet Explorer beta 7 version, more then likely you will have version 6 unless you updated that.
You can find out what version of WinMx you have by looking in the far top left corner of the screen when its on, it will say there.
This patch I asked you to get should detect which you have and install for you tho.

Once this is done let me know if it still gets that error.

Hi, tried that link, tryied save and run, neither work, it starts up and then before it's loaded i get the same message back.
And it's winmx 3.53. My internet explorer is what ever comes with the computer, coz i don't use it. I do everything through AOL.

Ok Dawny,

Lets do plan B.

Plan B is you follow these instructions for me

1. Click on the 'My Computer Icon'.
2. Choose 'Local Drive C'.
3. Locate the folder called 'Program Files' double click to open.
4. Locate the folder called 'WinMx' double click to open.  Inside you should see a some files, one called WinMx.exe.

Now you know how to find your WinMX folder when saving files. Start from your My Computer Icon, and go down the list until you find your WinMx Folder is how its done..

I want you to right click the following link, and choose 'Save target as..' or 'Save Link as..'  then scroll to find your WinMx Folder again under program files..

When you can see the WinMx.exe file inside a folder your in the right place, save this file there.

When its done downloading, close WinMx if its not closed already and restart it.

Ok when i click on save target as, and try and find the winmx.exe file, all i get when i go to the winmx file is this

On that first way, click when you get to that point Click the Save button but make sure the file name is actually

'ws2_32.dll'   if you have to type that in or copy and past it in the file name box before yousave it.  Then restart your WinMx after it.

Nope i'm still getting the same message come up.
It's starts to load and then comes up with that message again.

OK Dawny,

Rename your Program files folder called WinMX to WinMX1.

Then make a new installation from that same link as before

www.winmxgroup.com/   this time get the one that says it has the WinMx Program with it.

Right click that link on that page and choose Save Target as.. then save it to either a folder on your desktop or to your documents, just so its somewhere you can find it easily.

When is finished install it, and then tell me if that opens ok for you.
