Can't browse another user's library
« on: May 08, 2006, 11:34:14 am »
Stop me if you heard this before...

Recently I've noticed that while using a secondary connection and trying to browse another user I will loose my network connection. This doesn't happen all the time but only repeatedly on some particular user. Is there some new plugin or addon that prevents other users from browsing your files? I find this to be a problem while trying to determine whether the user is a legitimate one or just a leech that has padded his shared directory with his internet cache. Yes sad, but true...

Anyone familiar with this?

Hi comcrapsux,

yes this is something I have heard of before, and its more likely that this user is sharing more files then your capable of viewing on a secondary connection, these come in and your client get bombarded with them.  So basically your flooding out your connection.  Its fortunately not a common problem, as you mention its one user, and is usually quite innocent on their behalf.  If you had a primary you would not ever see this problem.
Hope this helps you feel better about this user, they are just a zealous sharer..

Thanks for the quick reply Me Here, but it seems to be more here than meets the eye.

First of all the user and there have been a couple that I've run into in the last couple of weeks have according to whois not a lot of files. Most range from less than 100 to no more than 1000. Normally I can safely view a user with a large library of more than 2000 files with no problem.

The problem starts immediately as the connection dies after the first or second file is displayed. I just had one person with only 80 files and could not browse them. I have never had this problem before since being a winmx user since around v2.something. I have a cable connection and can download at whatever speed the other user will grant with no trouble at speeds well over 100K/s.

So this problem doesn't seem to fit that senario...

Will do when it occurs again, however it appears to be entirely random at this point so I can't garruntee I can reproduce it at will. However I did have a couple of them in my queue just this weekend.

Mostly they have been in my queue downloading from me but at times I have seen it happen when I will be queued up waiting to download from them because I normally have the Auto Find Source set to every 10 minutes...

Well tonight seems to be my lucky or unlucky night depending on which side of the issue you stand.

I managed to find two different users one in my upload queue and the other from my download queue. Both exhibit the same sypmtoms as I have described earlier.
Quote
Not being able to browse the user's library without being disconnected on the very first of second files.

I did screen shots of the browse window, whois and part of the transfer window for each and numbered them accordingly as either 1 or 2.
Nothing seems amiss on either whois except the user downloading from me had no one in their queue and sharing well over 1000 files but being online for only 1/2 hour is not that unusual. I already discounted the double bytes files in his browse as being a problem because as you will see in the other user's browse it is not significant. I've seen it happen many times with ordinary file names...

So if anyone can shed some light on this I'm definitely willing to soak it up...

Yes!!! As soon as the first or second file of the user's browse pops in my winmx connection goes south and obviously terminates the list.

This is it in a nutshell. Why it is happening on specific users and not everybody is the real mystery. It's like they have a way to stop their files from being browsed...

are you using 3.53 or 3.54? just that it sounds rather similar to another bug that was in 3.53 but was fixed in 3.54, so if it is related then it could be that it was fixed at the same time

There was a bug that caused 3.53 to disconnect when loading a chat channel list.  I agree with KM, I would upgrade to version 3.54 and see if it continues or not.

I am not sure what version of the patch your using, but if your using the WinMX Group patch there should be a 'ws2_32.dll' in your WinMx Folder.  If thats the patch you see in your folder then you can simply upgrade to the newer version from here:

httpss://archive.winmxworld.com/WinMX/Beta/3.54%20betas/winmx354beta4.zip

If you have an 'olepro32.dll' file as your patch you will need to get the new version of WinMx and new Patch from here:

www.winmxgroup.com/ - If your on XP just let it install 3.54 on your machine, it will install you patch also.

Then let us know how it goes..
