HELP THE WPN
« on: May 17, 2006, 08:17:18 am »
I was going to sleep last night and i thought of something that may help the WinMX network. As we all know by now there are fake files flooding out network. People have tried many things to get rid of these files and flooders but only a small amount of flooders have gone.

Why don't we share as much as possible even if its your mums collection of music and overide the flooders. Why does someone not make a chat room and use that room so that users of winmx can browse other users in that room for files.

I know this is a long shot but if users really wanna use WinMX and they dont want fake files this could be a great temp.

Quicks Slide I know your intentions are good but what you suggest is not going to help the matter.

What will help is the blocking of the macrovision flooders from connecting to our primaries, that is the only way to clean the network.
Users of the winmxgroup patch already do this by default, if everyone took action to stop them joining the network there would not be a problem.

Also can I remind you that we encourage legal sharing on winmx, while I believe all sorts of files are traded that may be without the copyright owners consent we as a site do not encourage illegal activities, we do encourage the distribution of freeware, shareware, open source , copyright free and authorised content of any description.

Whilst I complain a lot about the RIAA/MPAA/BPI etc its with the thought in mind that they are trying to monopolise winmx or destroy it so we are forced to rely on them and pay what they demand, this is the battle we fight here.

I,m not prepared to give up my rights to trade my own material to some organisation that seeks a financial monopoly, and I wont ask you to either.

I support the perfectly legal distribution of copyrighted files without the copyright owners permission - a legal right granted to many nations (including the UK :-))

I had considered flooding real files, however the problem there is:
1. the number of files you'd need to counter all of the flooding (at least 1 genuine for every fake) in their case the files don't exist so they don't have that problem, real flooding would
2. wouldn't want to be accused of supporting flooding now would we? lol

I,m sure folks are aware of their legal rights in their particular areas and they should of course act accordingly

hmmmm lemme think, wouldnt it be good if there was a little standalone app that could be used, irrespective of a users choice of connection method, to iron out fake files from search results, now that would be great, would leave Macrovision and co with no choice but to butt out of the WPN and would leave the Riaa with a sour taste after spending millions to no avail.........if only there was someone who could create such an app................. :(

If you want a standalone application then you could use peer guardian to get the flooders off of the network, although I would instead recommend the anti-flooder patch, in case you are not aware of this patch it can be downloaded from www.winmxgroup.com

Network wide blocking of the flooders is obviously the only real way to get them off of the network - by stopping them connecting in the first place.

Or in one simple patch, totally remove fake files from search results, very very soon after, they will pull the plug on the connection attempts, as you well know.
