Amnesty International Campaign Against Net Censorship
« on: May 30, 2006, 01:27:07 am »
This sounds like a useful and worthwhile endeavour.

Quote
The Internet is a new frontier in the struggle for human rights. Governments – with the help of some of the biggest IT companies in the world – are cracking down on freedom of expression.

Amnesty International, with the support of The Observer, is launching a campaign to show that online or offline the human voice and human rights are impossible to repress.

I hope many of you will sign the pledge against net censorship, please post this same information on any websites that it may be suitable for as a discussion point, infromation is power.  :)

What exactly does it mean 'cracking down on the freedom of expression ' ?
If it is for the welfare of the public ( NOT THE COMPANIES OR THE GOVERNMENTS) Then it *MAY* be warrented.

Yes I,m sure many despots, dictators and George bush would agree that its ok to stamp on folks rights and lives because it seems that they choose to think their goals and politics are more important than those of others.

Where is the democracy/freedom in spying on and oppresing your own people ?

A general concensus of folks is all that is needed to carry things forward, not a return to facist times.

The trouble, it may spiral out of control and may turn into a Soviet style type of govenment law enforcement. No one likes, anyone who doesn't like them, If you have the means to find such people, then why not?

Just one point, Don't equate George Bush to a dictator. He is the President of America, and I think Americans have their right as to vote to the person who they think should govern their country, (They don't like him much now though  )
But this does seem a very innocous but deadly thing that has the full potential to spiral out of control.
