Virus Detected in uninstallmx file
« on: June 27, 2006, 04:15:56 am »
I had been prompted by my winmx software to have me upgrade my patch.

I have never had any problems with WinMX with the prior patch, nor have I had any since.
After I upgraded however, my virus scan, detected a virus in the uninstallmx.exe file.

I was shocked, and I thought I should post so I could at least have a response.

What anti-virus software? What version?
Don't worry about it, if it installed with the patch from www.winmxgroup.com it will be a false positive, either set your AV to ignore it on future scans, or remove it, winmx hardly needs an uninstaller, as deleting the program folder & relevent shortcuts does the trick. (oh & the one hosts entry for the update bar, although that will do no harm, as only winmx will be likely to ever reference it)
Blessed is he who expecteth nothing, for he shall not be disappointed.

is it AVG again? AVG keeps coming up with false positives for just about anything using an NSIS installer - although I believe the latest definitions should have fixed it if you update

Its not all patch related either.. my AVAST av keeps telling me there is a micro trojan in my Settings.dat file.. would i like to delete this?..

Of course the effect that would have is My Winmx would crash then with no settings.dat in the folder it would also like to reinstall the next time I started it up.. this is not the patch.. its just a false positive ..
