Sony Admit Losing Battle

It seems that some companies are recognising defeat in the music for free battle.

A Sony executive in charge of the company's technology strategy believes that the music industry is not making headway against music pirates, despite the industry's extensive efforts to halt piracy.
Mark Litvack, an attorney who headed the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA)'s anti-piracy efforts, commented, "If you are not delivering content the way users want it, how they want it, and in a legit way, piracy will fill the void." However, Ted Cohen, who until recently headed EMI's digital business development argued that if a studio can connect a user to music faster than searching for a free file, people will pay for that music. Cohen contended that reducing the difficulty of purchasing legitimate music and movies for consumers would go a long way to resolving the industry's file swapping problems.

I feel ted is the only one with any sense, if folks can find what they want and rapidly why would they bother going to p2p to download, its a fact many forms of music just do not get airplay or publicity because the Cartel deem that we should all purchase only their product, p2p balaces that out and they fear it .

Moreover, the prices of music also affect whether people look to share sites.
always seems odd to me that in some parts of the world the price differences compared with others can be huge, as if the distribution industry is charging whatever price they think the local market will stand, regardless of the trifling amount paid to performers and the actual cost of production and distribution.

you cant p2p a live gig....you have to go and pay..and the performer has to do some WORK, p2p encourages sell-out gigs, RIAA stop complaining you lazy-arsed knobs

but "they" don't take all of the money then, a lot of that money would actually end up going to the artists (that is how artists make money, not from the tiny payment they are allowed for making a sell out album, but from concerts etc)
