Does Winmx Replace any system Files ?
« on: June 19, 2006, 10:30:44 pm »
Hi,

Does the present WinMx Replace any original Windows files ?
For example, does it replace the original winsock files ?
Am using, Winxp Pro Sp2

If it does, I'd like to know the names of the files, so they can be backed up & I can
be in a position to restore my system back to normal if I need to.
Would also like to be aware of any other such changes it makes, if it does ;)
Tell me how to best handle it.

Would appreciate your feedback & help!!!!

Used to be an avid Winmx user before, looking forward to using it again
Glad its back !!!! :)

Thanks a lot

winmx replaces no system files, the patch adds one line to your hosts file, for the update bar, although it works perfectly without that, just the update bar doesn't load. the .dll used for connection patching resides within the winmx program folder, causing winmx & only winmx to use that dll instead of the system version, which still gets used by everything else

No system files are replaced.
What the Patch does is put a different version of a system dll into your winmx folder.
This means when loading WinMx windows will use that .dll instead.
Windows will always look in the working directory of an app first and only if there's no different version will use the default version from your systems folder.
You see there's no need to backup anything, your system files are untouched except for the above mentioned addition to your hosts file.
