I haven't been on WinMX for several months (a catastrophic 160Gb HDD with all my shared files crashed and slowed me up) and when I did connect even though WinMX says I have a primary connection and everything seems to be functioning correctly I can't make contact with other file sharers. My searches turn up nothing. For intents and purposes I might as well be off-line.

I hope someone can help me figure this out.

I saw that "Me Here" recommends dumping PG2. I have been using it in the past and thought it was OK but, I never go against Me Here's advice so I am dumping PG2. If someone can point me to a replacement that would be appreciated.

If you downloaded our patch it has all the protection you need built into it
It loads a list of known RIAA addresses and blocks them without you having to do anything.
It will also filter the fakes from your searches, what more do you want?

Check if your ports are alright.
No search results are a god sign of that problem

Check your ports in the above site

If they are blocked, tehn go to www.portforward.com and see your router model there.

My WinMX will connect to the network and search results will appear but when I go to download them, it will connect and start to negotiate and then the connect will time out and I have no clue how to fix it...

well there are various causes for this the commonest being patches that don't filter fake results, which there are many many thousands of & behave in just that way, if you didn't get your patch from this page
