Author Topic: Frozen windows prevent navigating GUI (Read 3571 times)

I have posted about this in the past before, and got some friendly advice. However, no matter what anyone could recommend I do there was no way to overcome this problem which I still am suffering with. The problem is that after I have had WinMX open for awhile any windows I bring up within it freeze in front of the program, preventing me from getting around them. The windows appear faded out as if they're in the background, but no matter how much I click around them or try to close them, they just stay in front keeping me from searching anyone. I have provided a picture that shows what it looks like. Above I have a lot of search windows open, which go up there after I put the program window down and bring it up again. I can't, however, bring them back up, so they end up stuck up there.

The main reason I post about this again is that my friend says he used to have the same problems in the past as well. The way he describes it, when I search people it is being done through a different port. When this port gets blocked, it crashes. I'm not too sure if this is the cause of my problems, as you can see from the picture that this has prevented me from even bringing up a window to search files on my pc, and it also doesn't allow me to look at settings or go into chat either.

Anyways, I hope I'm not out of line to post this problem again, but I just hoped any extra information I have to provide could help me find the main factor in causing this. Any help appreciated.

From what I can see it looks like you are not using the patch that is supported by this site. WinMX is probably being flooded with fake file searches from the 10 secondary connection you have, as well as your own searches. Download this patch https://www.winmxgroup.com/Install-3.0-MultiVer.exe then close WinMX down completely. Make sure it is not still running in the taskbar notification area. Install the new patch and let us know the results.

there could be 2 causes for it, first the flooding can cause winmx to be unreliable

if you are running primary then it is strongly recommended that you have the winmxgroup patch as you are currently allowing your computer to be used to participate in attacks against innocent users (the huge problem of fake files - you are one of the people causing that problem) and as your winmx is busy attacking the network it can also cause stability issues with winmx itself

also if you are using mxmonitor (i see you are from the task bar) then it opens and closes whois windows a lot, due to a bug with MFC in windows XP that can cause a GDI leak, there are only 2 known fixes for this, 1. stop using mxmonitor (or leechammer which does the same), or 2. if you have SP2 installed (and only if you have SP2) then try this patch from microsoft - of course 2 is a better solution to the problem, however just to warn you microsoft classes that patch as unstable and not to be used unless you really need to (erm, i think you really need to...)

and just to reiterate, on primary you should be using this patch otherwise you are damaging the network for everyone (as well as breaking your ISPs contact merely by being online with winmx)

Thanks for the help. It managed to go all day yesterday without any problem at all. However, just a few minutes ago it finally repeated the same thing

I thought for sure the patch helped but apperently I was just lucky for the day. I still have MXMoni running, not sure if that is a problem seeing as how I had it open all day yesterday as well. I'm at a lost from here

i would try the new patched version cos by the look off that screen shot you not on winmxgroup.com patch
do a test on on it see if that will help you as the if filters the fakes out and blocks the riaa from flooding you
which is the thing thats corsing your probs

I already applied the patch, that's why it worked fine yesterday I assume. After it froze the windows again earlier I just reinstalled the patch and now it seems to be ok(hope I'm not speaking too soon). If having to reinstall it everyday is what it takes I don't mind though

Nah, I haven't updated to SP2 seeing as how any windows updates they expect me to dl after reformat always takes away all my space. I decided to just leave my pc untouched from their updates and haven't had a problem since(this mx problem I don't recall when it started occuring though...

)
