Is it possible to search on Extensions? I want to find LIT files via WinMX.

Can't edit my previous post so... adding the following text to the above:

It seems that the extensions are completely ignored when searching -- I've attempted to filter OUT mpg, avi, etc... by the following 2nd-line code with no luck:

Code: [Select]
-mpg -mpeg -avi litAND:
Code: [Select]
-.mpg -.mpeg -.avi .lit(both of which still result in hundreds of movie listings)

...and
Code: [Select]
*.lit(which results in NO listings) :?

I've also found no way to ajust WinMX to allow LIT searching like the way it allows TXT and RTF -- any way to 'hack' WinMX's code-files to allow seaching for this extension? Maybe there's a 3rd-party app that allows this functionality?

Thanks in advance!!

HI BeetleTX330,
Welcome to the forum.  I hadn't seen any of these file extentions on WinMX, so I decided to go hunting to see where they hide out..lol

This file type is rare on WinMX and it hides out in the Archive ie: zips, rars. isos. exe.... section of a search.  Just click the Any Bitrate button to choose Archive.
It seems most ppl have converted them into *.rar or *.zip format with the LIT in the title.
Probably because many don't know how to share a file type that is not listed.

The search I did resulted in 1900 plus files to go through and included using Opennap.

Heres how it looked:
*.lit

Heres a guide on how to use OpenNap, its great for rare files and is a part of your WinMX.

Give it a try and let me know if it helps you find those.

FYI:  To exclude words use -
        To include words use ~
Although it wasnt necessary for this search.

You can include a new file extention in your shares by clicking the Shared File Types and manually adding this extentions...for all of you folks out that that have converted these for sharing.

Hi and thanks for your reply! Hmmm, a few things:

I'm connecting with 3.53 (HATE the new library of 3.54b :)). I'm on High-Speed Cable. I've used OpenNap in the past but have always liked the multi-point D/L feature of Peer (but I'm gonna try your suggestions anyways). I'm running Primary in Peer.

When I followed that excellent tutorial on OpenNap, the search it created was the following: "PUBLIC 20050823", instead of just "Public" and no results were found (so I changed it to search for "Public"). I've noticed that lately I get NO results until I've been connected for a while (10 mins) even though WinMX says I'm connected and even after ~30 mins I still get, at the most, 6 sources per d/l when searching a popular file ("Spears" in MP3-AnyBitrate).  :?

As long as I've been typing this post, I have yet a SINGLE results on searching WSX files for "Public" -- something must be up with my connections to the Peer network. I disco and reconnect with similar lack of success. I'm experienced with firewalls/routers and am positive that I have it all opened and configured correctly. Maybe it's a WinMX 'thing/bug'?

Argh! I've got to run to work or I'll be late. Whoa! I just found one result in my WSX search - hehe. Sigh... I'll have to fiddle with this later tonight but I'll keep ya's posted on my troubleshooting/testing.   Thanks again (maybe I can continue this post from work but I do get pretty busy)!

Hmmm, I guess I can't EDIT my previous post on this board?

Okay!! I imported that one PUBLIC WSX and connected and immed got LOTS of hits on my *.lit :!:    Wow, this rox compared to my Lah-Hoo-Sah-Her results on Peer Network.  :D  Thanks again, too bad I gotta work, hehe, I could use another hour or so diggin' through this stuff.

Hmmm again. Forgot to mention that it seems that when I have these problems connecting that any connections I DO get are all Dutch or Italian sources. Being American, I find this frustrating (and I think it's why I'm having so much trouble finding sources -- I'm only connecting to a small part of WinMX's network). Any thoughts on this? Thanks!

Humm..Where to start.. lol

Hope ya weren't late ...

We disabled the edit option some time back, when a member had a habit of waiting until you replied to them then editing the post so it looked like no one had a clue..lol ..might be safe to enable now ..

Yea when I am looking for .WSX files I usually cut that search to 'public' only.. *note to self to mention that in the tutorial*...

I agree, I prefer the speeds and shorter Ques I get on the WPN, but hey,, if your looking for hard to find gear sometimes its a god-send...

Your connections.. humm.. that sounds like the Flooding is taking a toll on your connection.
Have a look at the forum thread titled Fakes, and also here Avoiding Fakes.
There are some great tips and important information there regarding searching and keeping your primary connection stable as they tend to cause serious issues for primary users by flooding the network with search results in such a manner that causes your primary connections to drop to low numbers or 0.  This is happening to primaries even when you yourself are not engaged in any searches or downloads as the secondaries connected to you most certainly are.

A great program that helps is PeerGuardian 2..  you can find out more about that here :
PeerGuardian 2

As far as finding the foreign files.. this is going to happen no matter what Peer Cache your on to some degree, and the OpenNap servers are not on a WPN cache so will be in all parts of the world.
Recently we looked at the different Peer Cashes that WinMX uses and found essentially your rotated according to availability second to area.  Basically,  for the most part WinMX keeps you in your area as much as possible but if space is lacking it seems to attach you to the "next available operator" .. so to speak.

Let us know if you need anything else ...

Happy Lit File Looking....
