Hi Gozone,

Welcome to the site.

I can think of two reasons this may have happened with a reinstall of your WimMX.. well maybe three..

1. You may have to remove WinMX from any firewalls you use, (dont forget about XP one if you use that) and then restart WinMX and readd it to your rules.  You can find information on some of the popular ones on the Tutorials link above.

2. Your WinMX ports are not set in the program, Go to Settings > Incoming TCP change this to the top option is ticked and the port is set, then go to In/Out UDP and do the same.. restart WinMX.  If this fixes it fine..

3. You may have a DSL Modem that needs ports set inorder to function as a primary or non-passive secndary, this means configuring.. if you are not sure you can look here
http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm  for your model and brand and follow the links to WinMx Application then follow those instructions to get it working.

GoingGoingGone <<< Well everything was working wonderful till I updated to 3.0...... All settings exactly the same as before and had good downloads & good uploads. Now its good downloads and nobody shows up in uploads at all, not even any messages since I changed to 3.0 last week????..... Did one download which took a week (on dialup only) which was a Spanish program that was 731megs big and it turned out to be XP-Pro >> What a SURPRISE??
Oh Well Try Try and Try again. Even dropped all the firewalls for an hour and no one appeared???? Take Care All

if you want to go in to WinMxWorld.com Help_3F1FAF500666 then someone can test your uploads for you

as for hardly anyone wanting to download though, could be worth checking your library to see if the files are all still shared

no one can upload from me >>> CORRECTED
« Reply #4 on: September 07, 2006, 11:15:46 am »
Mucho TNX "KM" >>> Was checked and is working >>> Just a lot of small files in first directory shared and they would go away after finished in upload area and just never saw them. You were also correct with the fact that when upgrading make sure to check and see if the upgrade has shared what the previous sharing setup was. Mine WASN"T, so the bigger files are now showing and being shared/uploaded. Again TNX, and to the group Prosper and Grow >>>    :D   :D   :D

no one is able to upload from me either. i DO NOT have a router. only a dsl modem. ive changed my port settings and still nothing changes. ive downloaded the new patch for the fake files, but i still seem to be getting some or im just not able to download alot from people who are having the same problems as me. the uploads are always timing out. i went to the port forwarding site and as i stated i do not have a router so mine is not in the list. im using speadstream 4200.
i dont know what to do. im not very computer illeteret. was not having any problems until i updated my winmx. and i have ALL firewalls turned OFF. what else can i do? any suggestions. i feel like people are getting mad at me when they cannot get files from me at all.
regards and deeply wanting to share files as thats how i get my files is from people sharing.

Kizercountry,

many modems come with routing capability without you knowing it and from looking at the data sheet of the SS4200 I can see it does.
(Details and a manual on the SpeedStream 4200 can be found here)
Now since there is no tutorial at portforward.com and it generally seems to make some problems due to several ISP's changing the firmware I suggest the following:

You go into Settings > Internet Connection > Incoming TCP Connections in your winmx and set it to "unable to accept incoming TCP Connections".
Then Settings > Internet Connection > In/Out UDP Packets and set that to "unable to send or receive UDP datagrams on any port"
After that you will have to restart your WinMx.

This will put your WinMx in a "passive" modus, which means others will have to initiate a connection with you for upload or download.
For this reason people with the same settings won't be able to upload/download from you.
However for most of your transfers this should work fine, so you should give it a try and see how it works.
It can easily be undone by putting in port numbers again later, so you don't have to worry about breaking something ;)

(If that setting is giving you troubles alternatively you could try getting the new beta Patch which supports opening ports via uPnP from here: https://www.winmxgroup.com/Install-3.1-MultiVer.exe
This would require your modem to have this enabled though, and i'm not sure if it is by default in your modem.)
