Hi there -- has winmx gone? edonkey has sold out, I see in the press, so I wondered if the fact that my winmx now just gives me a blinking yellow light and never goes to green to show connected means that they got bought out too?

frontcode who made winx shut down a year ago (exactly)

winmx is now being kept running by winmxgroup which was set up at that time, www.winmxgroup.com for a working winmx

Hi -- well, my winmx v.3.31 was working ok up till yesterday pm - I'm the guy you helped a couple of weeks back (I did post a thankyou !) and I got it working after some fiddling with ports. But again today I get no connection.

does the splash screen come up still when winmx loads? and does it still say Patch Operational?

also, do you run peer guardian? if so try disabling that (the patch contains blocking of flooders, peer guardian does not block the flooders but does block a lot of legitimate users as well as several p2p networks including winmx - its use is strongly discouraged)

today all the people fell out of my fxs room and the fxs window lit up "no host patch found cannot connect"
this was a small ickup and full service was resumed within 15 minutes, things seem back to "normal" now, i think it was just a temporary glitch, and it only effected those on chat servers using the hosts patch. the people using winmx with the alpha patch was only affected by falling out of the room, their connections remained, as did my winmx.

fxserver constantly queries the peer cache, and if it fails to do so then it comes up with misleading error messages and kicks everyone from the room - basically to host on fxserver you have to have a 100% success rate, every single cache query has to succeed... which is stupid to say the least

but coming from someone who has still refused to make the program actually work properly and insists on keeping it broken... i doubt it will ever be fixed

Well good news - for no apparent reason it's working again fine- about 4 hrs while it didn't. The only patch I know about is the PIE patch which i installed when winmx went down a year ago. I don't have peer guardian. Thanks!

by using winmx without blocking the flooders connecting you may be breaking the law, as well as doing harm to winmx.

go to www.winmxgroup.com and install the patch from there, this contains the required flooder blocking, it also has the added feature of removing the flooded fakes from search results to make it easier to download

thanks KM and you had me thinging about the OLEDGL.DLL and the WS2_32DLL, so, editing my original hosts patch that comes with FXS and so far we are green all the way with no hickups
