Questions related to Search Queries
« on: September 30, 2006, 07:22:02 pm »
I wonder if there is something like a Search-Horizon. Do Primaries spread them over the whole net or is there some limit to provide load-balancing.

Watching results, their changes over time and the fact that in many cases users being online for sure aren't listed, i'd assume searches are limited in the stages, so results represent something like a local submesh's catalogue of available files and not the net's complete content, but i don't know for sure.
still somehow freightened when i shall get inserted

There IS a search horizon, or at least so i understand, search results will represent results those primaries know about

there sort of is and sort of isn't, searches don't travel a fixed distance through the network then stop so there isn't a horizon like that, but they are replicated through the network randomly, and the further they have traveled so far the lower the chance of being passed on further - so that limits the range it searches based on which primaries it happens to be passed to, and of course the further it travels the lower the chances of it being passed further, so it eventually hits an (undefined) limit and dies off

so there is sort of a search horizon in that it only goes a certain distance, but that distance isn't some defined limit so it's not technically a horizon... (well, actually there is a defined limit, but they rarely reach that far)

So in laymans language for other readers here the searches are not network wide, and there is a limiting set of factors for this, and thats all anyone need know I think..lol
