I have issues...and need your help!
« on: October 08, 2006, 11:54:07 am »
Hi, I have been trying to stay connected to Winmx for days (at least two) and I can't get anything to upload or download...I can't even go into chat and when I do get in.... I don't get a response!  I have Windows XP and run version 3.54 beta 4 and moni.....I have adsl+ open networks 824RLW wireless router...I have checked my ipconfig & port forwarding and they are a match...so i know it isn't that?? (at least i hope not!) I have tried uninstalling and re-installing....I have even checked to make sure I had NO duplicate winmx.exe files on my computer......Do you have any more suggestions? (my brain is aching!) :?

Well, do you have any firewall running or antivirus?
Those can block your access too.
Something is blocking your access for sure, so please let us know what else is running on your pc and maybe we can figure it out.

Btw, I removed the double post ;)

also, is your router separate from the modem? if not it's always worth checking if the modem has NAT it's not uncommon for people to add routers (particularly wireless ones) not realising they already have the capability & only need a cheap network switch/hub or a wireless access point.

Running Trend Micro anti-virus and have even tried it in disabled mode and with the firewall switched off, and yes, router is separate to modem...
The thing is....winmx worked fine for me before! I haven't changed a thing on my system! Why won't it work for me now?  :(

If you've un-installed and re-installed WinMx it may pay to double-check your XP security setings. XP's own firewall is a culprit for re-instating port closures on previously allowed programs - especially WinMx

Still not getting anywhere.....I have checked security settings....I have checked port forwarding.....I have tried it all....I have even been into the help chat room for suggestions and spent countless hours trying to get it to run as it was before......in the help room I was told that something was definitely blocking me...as I did manage to get uploads going....they were screaming in at 20.000 plus but when I got a d/l to finally connect it was barely breathing and would then drop off! I can only get into chat infrequently and I can't get any searches whatsoever! Help me please....I'm going insane over this issue!

if you can download at normal speed using a browser from any website....................then your being traffic shaped by your isp on p2p networks................... (but when I got a d/l to finally connect it was barely breathing and would then drop off!) thats classic traffic shaping.....................way to test is to dl from somewhere like download.com..........if it comes in at normal speed for your connection
then your isp is the problem only solution is a different isp..........................

I definitely have normal download speeds ..... I tested that! I truly believe it is an isp problem.....which is a major pain cause their download rates (when working as normal on winmx) are awesome! Besides which, I have just upgraded my monthly plan with them to the maximum (totally useless & costly to me at the moment - aargh!)......I have another question though.....when I configured my port forwarding instead of showing application under virtual server it shows application in one to one NAT?? Is that normal....also under applicatyion it says .....emwebigd717 for tcp and emwebigd718 for udp instead of winmx which is what I set it at! is that normal? It doesn't look right to me!

I deleted my port forwards and loaded up winmx and lo & behold....it worked! Is that because of the beta patch auto port forwarding? Anyway....at least its working again....but for how long?

for however long it takes to stop working ;-)

if the port forwarding was added by the beta patch then it should be listed as winmx upnp, although often you'll see it listed somewhere different to where you would normally put port forwardings (if it's even listed at all that is)
