after hours downloading, speed drops and stays there

First, I am running V3.54 beta4, on w98se, 56k dialup connection.  I was having connection issues (modem disconnects for a few months, upgraded from 3.53 to 3.54 about a month ago). Situation: I'm downloading a file at 5.4 k/s for several hours, sometimes overnight. Then, all of a sudden, the speed drops to zero, stays there for 20-30 seconds, then slowly increases and stays at 1.5 k/s. I actually saw this yesterday morning, and couldn't believe it. This will happen if I am downloading 1 file or many, same result. It doesn't always go back to 1.5; but it is always about 1/3 of my maximum speed. It will then stay there until I need to reconnect. any ideas? thanks.

firstly, win98 is slightly old now, and WinMX3.54b is ideal with the faster winXP with a faster prossesor, secondly alot of isp's will limit some1 that is downloading for a long period of time, a friend of mine has dial-up, her isp automatically disconects every 2hrs so she cant download large files over night and online gaming or using winmx is out complately as it will shiut off every 2hrs, even during emails it disconected and it didnt send the email, instead it lost it, yours doent time resrict you but seems to be limiting ur download speed untill you log off and it resets itself. there isnt alot we can do if r isp is resricting you.

thanks. would you recommend going back ver 3.53? I wasn't ready to put all the blame on my isp ... yet. I was thinking that, perhaps, winmx itself is the problem, or possibly the phone line? I have had disconnect problems off/on for almost a year now, but the bandwidth dropping is fairly new, perhaps 3 weeks. If it is my ISP, is there any way I can detect/report the drop in speed? thanks again.

Sign up for their 10 hours free a month.. and see how you get along.. if the speeds are ok then its the ISP if the speeds do the same then is something else to blame.. could give us alot of info to help you diagnose it ...
