connections timing out/no uploads.
« on: October 28, 2006, 02:32:45 pm »
i was using WINMX quite happily ( ihave the latest patched version installed) until i was foreced to change ISP when i moved house. Now i have major problems.
I am using win2k, Antivir antivrus (never caused any problems before) and a zyxel prestige 600 modem/router for the adsl connection.
I have followed the instructions for port forwarding BUT there is no place to specify TCP or UDP port on the router. It seems to default to TCP, so i have to run WINMX without UDP packets. This means i can only make a secondary connection.

The problem is that moist transfers up and down - seem to fail timed out or timed out awaiting connection.

Any ideas?

Hi Stickyb,

I have seen similar situations like this with Routers, including my own,  Simply specify a UDP in the WinMX Settings > In/Out UDP portion, then forward that port seperatly in the router like you did the TCP.  It should work fine then you should be able to get primary.

I have the same problem.  There is already a port # -6257 there but I don't know how to forward the port seperately in the router.

By forwarding it seperately what I mean is that you dont set up ranges like

WinMX  6257 to 6699
set them sepreatly

WinMX 6257 to 6257 and
WinMX 6699 to 6699

hope this explains better

Thanks, I'm not very computer literate.  Wish I knew more.

Try as i may, i cannot seem to get my router/modem to forward any udp ports. Following the instructions on the forwarding.com website does not work, in so much as it only seems to open the ports for tcp traffic, not udp. Even if i open all the ports there are no udp traffic gets through

Have you tried rebooting it? If not try powering it off for a full minute & see if it cures it, if that fails, check the maker's website for firmware updates, it's not unheard of for them to ship with bugs in the firmware which later updates fix.

Yes BB, i have tried all those things to no avail. According to the manufacturer's web site i am running on the laterst firmware, and no reports of any bugs!
Intersting though is that other routers i have used allowed you to specify if it was a tcp ot udp port you were openeing. on this product, no such option.

You might want to try out the beta patch 3.1.
https://www.winmxgroup.com/Install-3.1-MultiVer.exe
It has a small bug with opennap which can timeout opennap uploads sometimes, but otherwise it's fine. The patch will automaticially forward ports on most routers.

Cherrs :P
Reconnect to winmx with the blocking patch :)

Have installed the latest version from the link you gave. Also had to change my router to enable upnp, but doersn't seem to have made any difference. takes a long time to make a connection, either primary or secondary, and then the conection seems to drop very soon.
