winmx showing download results on secondary but not on primary

hey anyone that can help i switched from dial up to dsl and i can't get any download results or chats to come up on primary heres some info i use windows xp,winmx 3.54,the latest pie patch 3.0,no router,actiontec qwest high speed dsl modem and model number GT701
i'm wondering about this and i did try switching to ports that worked for other people idk right now i noticed in my firewall allowing that there had been four 6699 port allowings allowed but right now the ports i see allowed are
listening 16698
6699
6698
9966 and 16699 can someone help and i do get connected of course its just on primary i'm getting no search results but on secondary i am what should i do??????

I suggest a visit to portforward.com unfortunately you don't state which version of your modem you have, but full instructions can be found here by model:

This will allow you to configure the modem for WinMX, as to ports allowed in the firewall, just make sure whichever you're using for WinMX are allowed, generally unless there's a reason not to I suggest sticking with the defaults of TCP 6699 & UDP 6257 it makes matters so much simpler if the setup wizard should run after a crash, if you're using non-standard ones, you have to remember to set the non standard values, which sometimes escapes your mind months later.

I haven't done anything new in my hardware or software, but all of the sudden, I can't get any results thru a primary connection, but I can on secondary.  I'm on a Charter cable connection.  I use a Linksys router and had forwarded the ports previously to 16699 & 16257 about 2 months ago when I had trouble before and everything worked fine until a couple of days ago.  Right now, I'm showing P is moving between 4 & 5, S=0 (constantly), with spm bouncing between 4118 & 17661 and I've been connected about 15 minutes this time.  I've seen 1 person trying to download from me with no luck.  I'm thinking that maybe Charter is playing with me.

go through and do the port forwarding again, specifically check your computers IP Address and the IP Address that you have forwarded to are the same - often with it suddenly breaking it is due to your computers IP Address changing (normally due to being offline for a long period on holiday for example, or due to a power cut)

mill, did you notice if your changes actually stick, through a reboot or two? I understand you need some admin privliges to make some changes in your version of mickysoft windoze.

Also not mentioned is firewall settings for in and out bound traffic, are they good to go??

It's not reverting to your phone line is it?

Another thing you could try is the suggestions given by the online service speed testers available. Like your MTU may still be opimum for dial up services.
