What is Purge Users
« on: November 02, 2006, 03:17:25 pm »
Hi all.  I'm new to this forum.  I've been using (well muddling through) WinMX for a couple of years.  I've sort of tried to figure out most of it by myself but there are still things I just haven't been able to grasp.  One being...  :?:What the heck is "Purge Users" and what does it do? :?:

in most cases, nothing ;-)

it is for if a download has a load of failed sources with errors (for whatever reason) it clears them out... but that happens automatically after a while (timeout can be changed in settings) anyway so the button is almost useless

Its sort of like those light switches you find, you know the ones when you move into a new house and its a switch but you spend years trying to figure out what it goes to..

Turns out all that time you fliped it on.. then off.. then on.. then off again..
it was some poor family in China's lights..

Maybe its actually sending secret military secrets accross the globe when you click it KM.. you never know.. :P

Thanks guys... I sort of suspected that all along because nothing ever seems to happen when I click it.  :)

Like KM said, if you have it set to automatically purge download sources after a time - which is the default -  nothing will happen when you press it.

If you however have cleared that checkbox you will see lots of inactive sources in your downloads over time, which can then be cleared out by that button.

I never set it to automatically purge sources because some of them for tv stuff are hard to find and it's nice to see the name of the person who has that file and maybe even has a room tag which tells me where to find them.
I used to go hunting through all the tv rooms for some people from that list of sources, lol
