do you know how to run programs?

all you do is run WCS and it works, nothing complicated about it - run it, it loads the config file from the same directory, and users start joining

for winmx you need an old wine version (below 0.9.16) not the latest one, it runs fine on those versions - newer ones it just crashes though

http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/xandros-help/62863-wine.html

looking on google and found this link

i followed its advice and downloaded wine-0.9.15-SuSELinux100.i586.rpm

at this point i thought all my searching had ended and everything was going to be ok.. as it downloded, i opened it.. and it said it was installing something.. w00p!

but i record ir giving me a few missing files and just sed it created a .deb file or something..

i still cant open a exe... and i cant find no links to what it inssstalled...

linux is really good, and i like it but i feel imma end up installing windows :(

James, it seems there are no precompiled Wine versions for Xandros available.

That's one of the disadvantages of using smaller distributions I guess...

Anyway, in short: files with .rpm extension are precompiled packages for RedHat based distros, .deb packages are for debian based distributions.

I think it would be best to compile your own version form the source code if you want to keep using Xandros.
That's what I suspect you had with the  wine-0.9.30.tar.bz2

That's a compressed file you need to extract first.
There should be building instructions in there, i.e. a readme file.
There is an installation script that will do pretty much everything automatic but I won't tell you more now since you already reinstalled windows :P

I do have the source code for wine 0.9.16 which works perfectly well on my debian linux, so if you want to try again at some point you can get that from me.
Compiling it yourself isn't that hard if you have the necessary libraries etc installed - which really can be the bigger problem when not using a package manager which will automatically install all dependencies of a package :-)

Maybe you should think about using another, more popular distribution though where packages are easily available :P

Update: (For all who care..)
the server i got is doing really well btw.

Linux didnt really suit me and seeing the diffrence from Linux to win2k, linux really lagged my comp..
its been up 6 days on win2k, running 2 rooms, winmx, website (even though i aint set it up properly) metis torrents and w/e else i run my load is 45-60% and it isnt even running slow.. amazing.. i can verify win2k is prolly the most stable release of Microsoft OS's Yet

Thanks for all the Continued Support from Winmx World Website and ChatRoom!
