hi there... sorry about this. This post is about zinc's sharing files catastrophe.

This site wouldnt let me in... told me password was invalid and then couldnt find where id written it! doh! anyway re registered now. To carry on thank you santas helper for your advice - i tried to find mx in programme files i could only get uninstall or start winmx. so i searched for it. but its saying that it refers to a location that is unavailable. it maybe on hard drive or network.make sure disc is properly inserted or connected to the internet or network and try again - if it still cant be located it may have been moved to different location. I'm getting REALLY confused now!!!! again sorry about replying this way. never used forums before... need help there too! lol thanks for your help...but need more!

OK chrijon,

No worries about the reply.. Does your folder views include 'hidden files or folders' If not set them so they do.

Open the My computer Icon, then click the Tools > Folder Options > View > scroll down to Hidden files and folders.

Make sure there is a tick in Show Hiden Files and Folders
Make sure Hide file extentions for Known file types is Unticked
Make sure that Hide Protected Operating System Files is Unticked
Click Apply then OK.

Then reopen the C:\Program Files\WinMX folder and see if you can now see files with a .dat extention. There are a few. I would like you to delete the Library.dat (for v3.53) or lib4.dat (v3.54b4). You will have one or the other of those two.
This will remove the shortcut WinMX remembers to your shared files. Leaving you 0 shared files. Lets you start over and reshare only the files you want.

sorry again... such a pest.. ive unchecked boxes and its saying canmake pc inoperable.. I hate this.. am i gonna lose my pc?

If you followed my directions then what you have done is to make files visible in the folders. Thats all you have done..

Now you have files visible that are yes system files, virus files, program files.. this just makes them so you can see them only. And I say virus because enabling those views allows you to see all files in things. Meaning that viruses cant hide either this way.

Once those are all visible you can see the .dat files in the Program Files\WinMX folder so you can manage them easier.

That warning is just to let you know that if you go around deleting just any files you could cause yourself problems.. its alot like the warning on mattresses.. most folks just ignore them.. lol

Your ok as long as you followed what I asked you to do.
