Whenever I attempt to trade with someone I find that Both our downloads refuse to start but will time out waiting for network connection. Is there some way around this or is WinMX designed to discourage moving users up through the queue?

well there are afew problems like if you time out alot it could ne their or your firewall or router, the simplest way to trade is when they are in your qur, right click "start transfer" the rest is upto the network, firewalls, routers, even some ISP's block ports 6699 & 6257 knowing p2p aplications use them.

Try completely removing mxmoniter and winmx. Nad reinstall them Use the 3.1 beta patch if you don't use opennap (small bug causing uploads to timeout) from here.
https://www.winmxgroup.com/Install-3.1-MultiVer.exe
Otherwise, you can forward ports in your router manually from www.portforward.com. See your router model there and there will be a tutorial on how to forward ports there.

Cheers :P
Reconnect to winmx with the blocking patch :)

:DThank you Max and Sam for the suggestions. I will explore them.
Thank you too, Silver for your $00.02. I didn't mean to offend your sensibilities. I merely described a problem with my limited knowledge.  :?Your interesting quote from Orson Welles suggests that it doesn't matter what I call it, tomorrow it will all be forgotten, anyway.

Since my last post I experienced a nightmare. WinMX (3.54 beta 4) which has worked fine ever since installation, now allows no one to upload from me and I can't download from anyone. All users in queue including me, eventually time out. I can not get a list of chat rooms, either. I can however, still join chat rooms from the favorites list and that is the extent of functionality. I have a cable connection for the past year with no problems. The only thing that happened was no more uploading and downloading. The only thing different was the recent addition of MXmonitor. Trouble started shortly thereafter. I since uninstalled the App and uninstalled WinMX too. Cleaned up the registry and following directions on MXPie Info page reinstalled accordingly. Same result as before.

I am a long time user of WinMX before the troubles and like many others was elated to learn of its return. I am particularly grateful to Me Here, for the accurate and timely suggestions that helped me get back on board. I may be paranoid but whatever went wrong for my WinMX installation smells like tampering. It wouldn't be the first time and probably not the last.

If anyone has any idea what's going on your perspective is welcome.

Hi and thanks for the kind words Dlc247....
First question do you still have this router?    Netgear #CG814WG Router

The reason I ask is often when we see a total break like this of what was a working WinMX the Internal IP has changed that the router assigns to the machine, there by making the rules or port openings useless you had before.

First go to Start > Run > type in     cmd
Then say OK
Then type in       ipconfig
Then hit Enter

Make note of the Default IP Address (not to be confused with the Default Gateway Address)
Now access the router configs and make sure your rules show that IP in them where the ports are set.

The other issues I am seeing is you are using Pie???  This means the RIAA will be using you in the attacks so I would also uninstall that and reinstall from this link Dlc, you've been round here nough to know this is the best connection and with the other problems your experiencing before this one I highly suggest this for you now too. (peerguardian alone may have been the cause of the original post you made here with the users that you cant  trade with, and running pie and primary without some form of protection is not an option...)
https://www.winmxgroup.com/Install-3.0-3.54b4.exe

Since you have uninstalled and reinstalled the firewall 'should' be ok in theory but if the above doesn't work post back and consider removing MX from the firewall rules, fire it back up, let the firewall ask again if you want to allow this, say yes and try...

Me Here,
Many thanks. I do have the same router, I reconfigured router to show where ports are set and it worked like a charm. Uploads and downloads now happen. But, and that's a big but, I still can not get chat room lists and can not access any channels except for 2 of the bunch in my favorites list. One of them happens to be my home room.
Again, thank you.

the channel listing is udp rather than tcp (which transfers are) if all still checks outrules wise bearing that in mind, & after restarting the router, there are an odd few which don't do the job properly, it may be worth seeing if putting your pc into DMZ helps (sometimes it does) also some firewalls (sygate & zone alarm in particular) have been known to interfere with channel listing, in spite of winmx being allowed, worth a quick check with firewall disabled to test if the problem is there
Blessed is he who expecteth nothing, for he shall not be disappointed.
