Downloading & Uploading
« on: November 14, 2006, 04:40:16 pm »
I have been using WinMX for several years & I've downloded lots of files and others have uploaded from me. However there are some people who I cannot download from and they can't upload from me. Then they get mad at me because they can't download anything. I have Windows XP Home, I have a secondary connection with DSL, I'm at port 6699 for incoming TCP connections, I send & receive UDP datagrams on port 6257. Why does this happen with only some of the people?

Let them get mad... lol
If most of your downloads and uploads work fine, then all is well on your side. And something is up at their side. Ask them if their uploads and downloads works fine or not....

Cheers :P
Reconnect to winmx with the blocking patch :)

Spread the word now :)

if uploads are working then it sounds like your winmx is set up correctly, and it probably is just the other end

you can always go to the room WinMxWorld.com Help_3F1FAF500666 and see if someone can do some tests with you if you want, but as i say it does seem like you are properly configured if any uploads work

I  have experienced times when folks uploading just time out everytime and i myself time out on specific people, maybe i am just on ignore.  Then there is the one message that says that the problem could be associated with either mine or the other person's firewall.  So the solutions are out there, i just have to get help finding them.

I had to errase and preform a full recovery of my computer an now I downloaded WinMx again but can't get a primary connection. It keeps on poping up about no TCD an UDP conection.
Please help

Hi Gillybear,
When you reinstalled WinMX it may have failed the TCP and UDP connection test, so you need to do a few things, depending on your set up.

If you have a router or DSL modem that maybe need configured please look here for the brand and model:
http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm
Select your model, then choose WinMX from the list, follow those directions to set up.

If you have a firewall be sure to all WinMX Full access, and be sure to also change the settings in WinMX in Settings > Incomging TCP > set to Listen on port 6699 & In/Out UDP set to send and receive on port 6257.
If you use XP Firewall here are the instructions:
https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/firewall.html

Try these things and let me know how you get along.
It may be as simple as setting the WinMx Ports up as above, or reconfiguring a router set up..

hiya Peeps, Same problem is happening to me im on a netgear router all was fine the other day then all of a sudden nobody can download from me. Likewise some are getting pretty frustrated with me like im cancelling them out or something. I just wondered if the bad people that are tryng to stop our free downloads are strangling our poor winmx somehow.
I tonight have got my first download on the go for days. After taking Advise on one of your other pages of good advice Im now trying Port 1024 Both  but people can't seem to upload from me their seems to be conection issues. If Anyone has more Advice to give Please Help Me.

recheck your port forwarding rules, particularly that your LAN ip hasn't changed from when you made them & also that if you had windows firewall disabled, updates havn't caused it to re enable itself

Hi Catlady,

I'm sorry to have to tell you this but more then likely its your ISP, looking at your provider when you posted its Rogers Cable.  Sounds to me like they are up to old tricks throttling usage of P2P on their service.

And that's typical to just wake up one day and find they are now doing this to you.  I can tell you a few things to try.. port changes although, to be honest its not likely to help you.  When this  type of thing first started most of it was port specific and changing to non defaults in MX helped, now most of them use software that is packet specific meaning it can see it on any port.
https://forum.winmxworld.com/index.php?topic=1206.0.html

You can test this to make sure its whats happening if you have or get a cheap dial up modem and install it, its fairly easy to do and you can get a few places that offer you free dial up hours a month.  Here is Juno's site.
http://account.juno.com/s/landing?action=viewProduct&productId=free&group=free

Sign up for the free 10 hours a month..Using dial up is slow but .. if your uploads work better, and stay at consistent speeds, and your downloads do the same.. then you can pretty much bet its the Rogers doing this to you.

The best advice and many folks that have posted about this on the site here have done this, is to change your ISP.  It would be ok if they  throttled you down during peak times, or if things worked right even at slower speeds however, usually this is not the case, and you spend weeks or months even trying to fix something that they broke.

I hope some of this info has helped you, I'm a reg in the Music Spectrum also, so if you have questions or anything you can pm me there or post back here.  One more bit of info some other folks posted about Rogers Cable on site here if you would like to see appropriately named Rogers Customer Hostages

I am able to join a chat room and even browse; however, I can not download any files, I can not search and all uploads time out. I have made sure my firewall allows winmx , tcp is 6699,udp is 6257. I have a voip and have followed the steps for the static IP; however, when I put the IP address in the toolbar it says it is unable to connect. I can still connect to anything else. what can I do now?

hi Anthony Massingill

Some firmware updrades make the Gateway IP (the one you use to connect to the router configs) different.

The way to find your Correct Gateway is by going to the Start Menu > Run type in       cmd      then click OK
Then in the box type      ipconfig   then hit the Enter Key.

You should see your Default Gateway IP there, use this number to try to connect to the router and let me know.

do you get a chatroom list? If not abscence of search results & channel listing together would indicate either winmx being blocked by firewall or ports needing to be forwarded

I am having trouble downloading. It will start and get to around 10% (if lucky) and then turns into red and searches for contacts. I am with Shaw. Has anyone else had problems with this provider?
