any time I d/load my speeds are anything but constant-usually ranging from around 3.13 to 4.50,speed is erratic,changes every second. .Is there any way to maintain a constant speed or is this just normal? On 56k dial-up connection and have used the links as far as optimum bandwith goes.cheers.

56k is only 5.60 so them speeds are sort of ok. what you need to remember is that not only are you downloading you are sending bk to the uploader that you have recived that bit of info so that takes up bw also. if you could can you provided a little more info like what OS you have and what provider you are with this will help us see if you are having any other issues that could be affecting it but around 5.00k is pretty high on a 56k modem

The only way to make your uploads stay nice and steady is to limit outgoing bandwidth in Settings on MX, for you you should have outgoing bandwidth already limited and set to the lowest number. As far as downloads go, there is no good way to make those steady...

Many thanks-about to try it out now.Tutorial was a help-I had someone else set WinMX up for me and never questioned the settings before now. I want broadband and Miss World for Christmas thanks-well,maybe broadband can wait....

cheers-things are more stable now, my OS is windows XP, Pentium 4 and Lucent Win modem-56 k dial-up-and have spybot and Adware Isp is Telecom Xtra here in New Zealand I use peer guardian and leechammer too-but with more regard to ppl with primary connections since they help keep things running-any more tweaking tips greatly appreciated.

if you use the winmxworld patch, then there is no need to use peerguardian.

They have over 827 million ip's in their lists including their own

That blocks many potential fileshares and in my case, a few opennap servers as well :roll:
