For the first since using WCS I've encountered an error message on the panel of WCS. It has appeared twice in 2 days in 2 different sets of circumstances. We have been using wcs since 1.7.3 and currently use 1.7.4. 2 hosts, same error message.

01:57:38 [C0] Buffer Overflow Attempted (xx.xxx.xx.xxx) - Room Name too long

The first time it appeared I was holding the room and booted winmx to re-establish a lost wpn connection. The second time was during redirect to co-host and it was my own IP that appeared as the buffer Overflow attempt on the receiving hosts WCS Panel.

This error message has never appeared before and we've changed nothing. I have only one question..... what the ... ?

that means you are trying to join the channel using a channel name that is too long, for example if you tried to join xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx_0100007F0003 then it would block it as that channel name is too long

...basically it should mean a custom client that is probably trying to crash the room, however the only way that should happen with a redirect would be if it was actually redirected to a room name that was too long, which would cause it to happen for everyone

of course the important thing would be if simply trying again allowed you in or not

Trying again allowed us in, the error appeared roughly 3 times on each day. The problem hasn't recurred. Thing is, the channel name has been the same length the whole time we've used wcs so we couldn't understand why suddenly we were seeing '...name too long..' errors.

Try using a shorter room name on a temporary basis and see if it happens again.

you can actually redirect to it using any name, and i had assumed that you were using the same name for a while... but as i said if you did a redirect then the same name was used by everyone so if one had an error they should have

but as long as it only happened a couple of times to you and isn't causing problems or happening a lot or anything i guess it's probably OK to just ignore it for now unless it starts causing problems... probably never find out what caused it anyway, heh
