Getting around nasty isp that blocks all p2p
« on: December 30, 2006, 02:33:52 am »
I seek a way around my isp's blocking software. Sometime ago, I upgraded from 56k to a wireless service. Love the speed (CNET says my connection speed on the wireless is in the 1.5Mbs range), however my isp actively blocks all p2p applications. This includes all chat clients for mx and 2sen as well.

Ok, so the easy answer is get another isp. There isn't one other than to go back to 56k (or spend far more money than I care to on satelite). I've tried Anonymizer and that don't work. Any other ideas?

I thank you all in advance for your consideration of my problem and also thank all those (you know who you are) who have tried  to help me in the past.

Satellite is even worse. Most of the ime they block all P2P.
Better try to get another ISP. I'm afraid that there's no workaround around ISP blocking :(

Cheers :P
Reconnect to winmx with the blocking patch :)

Hi al qaerdio

I would recommend trying port changes, this sounds like the type of blocking that 'might' fall still into the category of port blocking so its definitely worth a shot for your WInMX.  Use high numbers and remember that if you had to change anything in the router for WinMX like open ports to change them there and in any firewalls as well.
When i say high i mean really high.. 62000-63000  in this range.

As for the Robo or accessing Chat via this its not a bad idea to check into a proxy.  They work okish with chat and those types of functions and for web based Chat as well.  Im sure if you go this router someone can help you more with exactly what to get or look for.  Keep in mind this idea sucks for file transfers tho..

I have tried the port route and came up empty. My isp has admitted to running blocking software so I gave up on that route, plus the router is their's and I have no control over it. I guess I will just have to wait for another isp to provide service in my area.

Thanks.
