A Solution For Secondary Users To Connect To WinMx Network

Great news folks , although not the finished all round solution to the problem this allows you to reconnect to the network as a secondary

Instructions to use our updated host file to connect to winmx secondary!

1) if you are connected to primary's do NOT use this hosts file!
2) this will only work for secondary connections!

3) put the file into this folder, overwriting the old one - C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc
4) restart your computer

Kk folks that proves it can work but for now the primaries on the list are full up so hold your horses, the folks working on this are still doing so and as some sleep others plod on,  patience is required I believe and thats something we have in abundance I hope

I can't seem to locate the folder where the patch needs to go...laugh if ya want..lol...i have xp pro with sp1...need help locateing folder......<<<lame brained today...lol

You need to replace a file called simply hosts

This can be found in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc    and that is a real folder name..lol

1. Unzip the file
2. Put the extracted hosts file into this folder, overwriting the old one - C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc
***For Win98/Me users file location is C:\windows
3. Restart WinMX

before i try the patch,is this just for chat,or does uploading and downloading still function?

Its not a patch Freddo  

its a file that redirects your mx to a new cache that allows you to get connected , all functions will take place as before search, chat, etc

Winmx is not server based so its really has nothing to do with what goes on when your connected, you grab some  addresses from the cache  connect to them and the cache is no longer interested in you..lol

Is there any reason that users could not connect after replacing file, i have not tried yet since i am on the orginal connection before it went down. But I am trying to help member of our room get connected. Some now have downloaded/ installed this fix when it first came out and are still having connection problems and i would like to give them best advise possible. Telling them to be patient is not working anymore.
