« on: August 05, 2007, 11:15:59 pm »
This may have been asked, but how do I get uploadis to run for others. I am getting cut off or ignored because people cannot download from me. I am using winmx v3.53 with the winmxworld patch. have grande communications odessa tx as isp and am using netgear router wgt624 v.3 . router shows configured for winmx and firewalls shoe=w configured but i rarely get their uploads to connect

Do all your uploads fail or only some?
Are you on secondary or primary to the WinMX Network?
What OS do you use?
What firewalls do you have running?

most likely cause, your router assigned you a new loacl ip owing to a glitch rebooting..

second most likely your windows firewall got turned on by some update when you had it disabled
(this is why i recommend ppl configure & use the darned thing, apart from habit of turning on when you turned it off it's not a bad 'wall, that's about it's only vice)

third most likely.. your isp started filteering traffic.. this one is tough to fix, usually involves a change of isp.. but either of first 2 aren't hard
Blessed is he who expecteth nothing, for he shall not be disappointed.

I just installed patch, and 3.53 today....  been off mx for too long, but reformat enabled me to connect, finally... but, for some reason, now every upload i start drops in speed from 54k to 1 or less in less than a minute...they all start, and they all continue to run, just at such a low speed that people who are sharing for uploads and downloads are dropping me like a hot rock when they see my upload speed compared to their download speed to me, in return....  i know my firewall is configured correctly, and i am sure it isnt my isp, since i havent even exchanged any bandwidth since mx first went down, this is the first day....any suggestions?  i am running on primary here....thanks
 :(

As soon as I switched from Primary to Secondary, and I mean As soon as I switched and connected on secondary, my upload speeds shot from 1 or less to maximum of 52k; consequently, I suppose I will continue to only use secondary connection if I want to return bandwidth to those nice enough to share their's with me.

This would be my only suggestion for correcting the problem with upload speeds being dam low when using v.3.53: try switching to secondary connection and see if it makes a difference...

easy fix change back to windows firewall as it is as good if not better than most anyway
that said
some firewalls have a problem with p2p traffic and possibly sunbelt is one of them... check that you have set it to allow winmx ( try starting winmx without the firewall then turn it on & check if there is a diffrence & or an allow winmx rule box appears ) either that or reinstall winmx over your existing from here
https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/connection.html       <<<< use setup for existing installs
this might kick start your firewall into asking if you want to allow winmx
also check that you dont have both firewalls running (as windows has a annoying habbit of kicking in randomly at times)

Hi Free spirit

Could you please let us know the following:
Run you running on primary or secondary connection?
Do you have ports forwarded?

hi,
the button for "make primary connection..." is selected.
But what is meant by" ports forwarded", and where is that selected?

"ports forwarded" means are you using a router or dsl modem? because if you are,in order for winmx to work properly you need to open ports for it.

If you do have 1 of the above ... mark down the make and model #    and visit
http://portforward.com/      underneath "Guides" and "Reviews" you'll see
Port Forwarding Router ... click on that and find your make make and model of router/dsl modem   ... once you've found it in the list click on it and then find winmx in the next list
and detailed instructions will show you how to open the ports needed.
