Sharing violation error
« on: December 12, 2006, 01:44:14 am »
I was trying to download a video and had a whole bunch of different sources queued up. I found one that was currently available and when it started to connect to the peer, suddenly ALL of my queued list shut down and gave me an error message that said sharing violation error. What is that and how do I get around it? Never saw that before in all the years I've been a WinMX user.

File Error>11.when a file is Opend by another program. LIke when you try to look at the file with a player
(dont play or edit the songs while you attempt to download, and if you use MusicMatch Jukebox do this: Go to Options > Music Library > WatchFolders > uncheck "Enable WatchFolders")

This is the general File Sharing Violation has Occured error and the fix.. let us know how you get on..

It wasn't a file error, it was a 'file sharing violation'. I wasn't doing anything except downloading the one file (or trying to). I ended up deleting what I had already downloaded previously and started the whole thing over again and got no errors this time, but I did lose out on hours of previous download time.

Hi Jeff sorry if Ive confused you.

They are all file errors if they are in the transfers screen, but the above one File Error (11) File Sharing Violation is its full official title.  This can also happen if the user your downloading from has the file in use especially seen alot with Music Match users.

Im glad you have gotten the file ok, but if you use Music Match do think about the above if you dont then it was probably just a fluke.. as you say its not one we see often either.

Hey,
I've been having this same problem alot lately.  I've been using WinMX for years and have never seen this before until the last month or so.  My question is.....if you've connected to download and then it tosses you out and you get the message "File Error>(11) a sharing violation" do you have to delete the file and try over again or can you just try to que it again?  I'm having this happen alot lately.  Thanks for any help on this.

Stephan

Is this happening with just certain users? or certain files one or two files your  trying to complete?
Do you use Music Match by chance or i believe Real Player may also have this issue?
Have you opened the files with any type of player on your system to preview them?

when this happens it's because the file is in use or because someone else is trying to download it andthen you try to delete it in winmx. I f you had simply went to the folder and deleted it and only someone was downloading it in WinMX it would've deleted just fine, otherwise WinMX is just saying you're sharing that file atm or using it and deleting it isn't allowed atm.
