What's happening????
« on: September 24, 2005, 02:41:21 pm »
I had my PC taken away coz of some problems and now that I get it back my dear WinMx won't work?
Can someone help me tho? I don't know where the problem is my PC and where Win MX.
Connection DSL, WinMx 3.54 Beta. 2 Problems:

1_ I had to reinstall WinMx and in the beginning says that I have no TPC (before my PC went away it worked fine) so it only allows me to connect secondary. But it keeps flashing and flashing without ever connecting.
2_ I read about the Host thing, but in my windows there is no Host to replace...so what should I do? (I don't think just copying it in the system32/drivers will work).

PLEASE HEEEEEEELPPPPPPPPPPPP
(Or I just get rid of DSL hee hee WinMx was the only reason I had it).

Never mind, it seems that I was too scared to read. I just stopped to the home page of WinMx World....had I read first in the forum I would have understood that that was not the help for my OS.
It seems that now it is working fine and that means I can give access to everyone to my 110Gigs storage unit since now I have a usb 2.0 that can make it keep up with my DSL. HAVE FUUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN

Great to hear Charyoup, folks have a right to chat and share their work amongst themselves, whatever the Cartel says   :D

LOL ok tell me how youve saved mx again. by this post on Vladd44.com all you have saved is a chat program.

April
Founder of The SourceCode

there is a good reason for not sharing files:

anybody that shares any copyrighted files on winmx makes our network a bigger target for shutdown than it ever was before.

we have made history here...never before in the history of the world has a p2p network been shut down only to have come back by way of being "hijcked" by it's users.

Why was this done? for files? No.

This was done for COMMUNITY. For the families we have created for ourselves in the chatrooms and called home for so long.

If we want to keep it now, we need to make that point perfectly clear to the world.
And the only way to do that is to be a strong community of chatting families.

If you are not here for that and are just here for the files, we don't want you and don't need you...go find your files somewhere else.

We have a point to make and trading copyrighted files will cause that point to be lost. One does not fight to save a p2p network like we have just to get files.

I did it for TSC and my family there...i did it for vladd's and my family there...i did it for SunOS Headquarters and my family there...not for the files.

Trade copyrighted files and it will all be gone and our work will have been in vain.

The choice is yours: Go back to the way things used to be and say goodbye to everyone and everything in the near future...

Or we show the world that winmx was not just a place to get files. It was a place to make friends, meet the person that would become your spouse, learn a new language, learn a new skill, a place to go when you were lonely, depressed, a place to go when you just needed advice or someone to talk to, or a good laugh.

We only can do that by standing together as a community...not as a bunch of "law breakers"

Nowhere in the world is there such a strong community of chatters as here. This is special. This is worth saving. This is worth doing right.

Now choose.
Files? or friends?

looks like its not a P2p any more does it? or am i reading that post wrong?

My name don't matter

I cannot connect to read the original post by that user; also it is not made clear which statements are actually hers and yours ("  " or italics) however I feel a need to respond anyway...

Firstly it’s about BOTH (and other factors) only sharing files takes the back seat for a few more days until things settle into place.

Assuming people are going to continue not to share for the foreseeable future - is wrong.

This will not happen since the large majority of WinMx users don’t chat.

Given this the question files or friends? is not a correct or realistic question to ask of users.

If its not a p2p anymore as you seem to think then why not simply use third party chat clients?

The fact of the matters is - it’s about BOTH and more.

Give it time things will get better. Only 4/5 days old

it is because april lives in her own little world, she only sees the people in her little room and assumes that everyone is like that, so she makes such stupid suggestions based on that...

Damn winmxworld is up and down like a yo yo, my post got lost, so here we go again:

Km, the trouble is there is WAY too much mis-information going around, perhaps if you reassured a few peeps as to where we are with the network and peer caches, perhaps ppl would understand what to do, weather to share, unshare, get primary, stay off secondary etc etc

As for those users who say Winmx is now only for chat, and the peer caches were restored simply for chat? well thats the most ridiculous thing ive ever heard, you dont need the peer caches to be working to host a room, especially rooms that are only generally frequented by the same ppl daily. The day/s after FC shut down there were more ppl in Vladds channel than ever seen b4 and we had no peer caches then did we?

TO share OR not to share? that is the question!
Does it really matter?

Even Km says  " The best thing to do now is to wait, we need to sit around for a few days at least and see what happens before making any long term plans, for now we have a temporary solution that can be used to judge users reactions to everything that has happened before making plans about what they might want to happen."

Is just a temporary solution. TEMPORARY  Taken from the forum on
http://2sen.dip.jp/2sene/
The maker of one of the patches even says its just a matter of time.
TSC members say dont share files Boki says dont share files no one can even agree on wtf is a help or not.

As km has stated  "the peer cache is a small part in the network, it has the tiniest of roles, it is however an important part... it gets you connected to the network after all"

With out it no new connections. Just like the day mx stood still
everyone with a primary connection will be connected to winmx till they loose their connection no new chat rooms no search for files no downloads. The only reason mx is still up is becouse some did not loose there primary connection and the new host file for two new peer cache servers being run one from IP  205.x.x.x one from 82.x.x.x.
one in the netherlands one in Colorado. If they go down your back to day one of no winmx. the ip's come from the new host file open it in note pad and look.still fake files hmm dont let the riaa connect to ya
how do they even know winmx is up? Dont they need the new host files as well? How can they connect if we could not till a new cache server was opened? do we need a total re boot of winmx to get them off of the network? WTF is the real deal? someone tell us!
