Port Forwarding HELP
« on: January 30, 2007, 03:12:44 pm »
Can't connect to anything since switching to ADSL.

My spec is as follows:

Windows XP SP2
DSL up to 8MB
WinMx 3.53
MacAfee Firewall
Voyager 2091 Wireless router

So far I've been to the Port forwarding website but can't find my router listed (supplied by waitrose.com).  :?

Also I've gone into my router configuration to add a Static IP? I have the Internal IP Address and Default Gateway but it's also asking for a Netmask. All I can find using ipconfig is a subnet mask which the router config won't accept.

Can anyone assist me please?

Leggy John

P.S. All this router/port forwarding stuff is completely new to me!!   :?

Also here is a graet, easy to understand (we think) guide to setting up the static IP also

https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/static_ip.html

And if your new to all this, this  guide on what things are and stuff might be a better place to start before heading off to the portforward site

Hi Mamabear,
Welcome to the forum,

now as you said you have set up and are connecting, its possible you firewall isn't allowing WinMX totally, there is a differens between outbound access, like surfing the net, and inbound access, allowing upload & download, if you are using windows XP firewall that is with service pack 2 this is probably blocking you, if you have another firewall,
1st check to make sure your xp firewall is disabled,
2nd remove any allowing access for WinMX on your firewall and then start WinMX up and see if it asks for access, grant full access to it,

for some of the most popular firewalls we have some tutorials with diagrams to help you Click Here For Help

if that is set up correctly, it is possible your ips is blocking the default WinMX ports TCP 6699 UDT 6257
if you want to change the ports to something like TCP 16699 & UDT 16257 dont forget to reset your router to match them.

hope this helps, let us know, or slap me if im wrong.

Yes Mamabear we can help you

First thing id like you to do is to make sure that your WinMX says 'Patch Operational' in the update bar directly below your WinMX version and to the left of the Ignored button (did i just say that.. lol).  If it is blank or says Please Be Paitent then the patch you have may be out of date and not keeping fakes out of your searches..
If you dont see that message then do this

1. Go to Various WinMX Versions + Patch
2. Download this file, saving it to the PC where you can find it.
3. When its finished double click to install, being sure to choose your current WinMX version ie: 3.53 or 3.54, then let it install.
4. Be sure you dont have Peerguardian or PGLite installed, remove them if you do.
5. Start back up and see if things are improved.. esp the downloads part.

If your still having consistant problems transfering files please give us the following information

What version of WinMX do you use?
Did you install the above patch, and did you have any problems?
Do you have a router or DSL Modem that might have Router like capabilities.. if so can you get us the Name and Model ?
What firewalls, and antivrius a re you running?

Glad to hear it Mama.. although i might suggest you look into some type of protection that runs well with WinMX.. since im not sure which Antivirus you had running .. wether its a good thing to have off or not.  I dont have my protection running onpc scans of everything but i do have AV on the pc.. so just fyi.. some good ones that run well with WinMX are

AVG
AVast

just incase you need them..  :)
