question from a newb on routers

hello forgive me my question....i am not that educated on routers....or if i posted in the correct section on the forum.

well my question is i have a destop and a laptop which is wireless. would it make a difference for the better on winmx if i used my destop instead of my laptop...ie speeds d/l or u/l?.....according to my internet provider (road runner)  i had a connection of 5mb d/l and 384 u/l.....i had upgrade my speed from road runner to 8mb d/l and 512 u/l.....i thought i would have noticed a difference....but i do not.....any help is appreciated

At high speed internet, it makes little diference how fast your connection is as the spped at which you download depends more on the uploading capacity of the person you are downloading which is always way more low than your download speed...
