Go to C>programs and delete the winmx folder
Reinstall winmx from here:
https://www.winmxupdate.com/Install-3.0-MultiVer.exe

Cheers :P
Reconnect to winmx with the blocking patch :)

That red box and x sounds like a firewall or protective program is blocking its access .. be sure that what ever you have installed on the system for Antivirus and protection is allowing WinMX access..

Also be sure to check if your using XP the firewall in Control Panel, that its allowing WinMX if its enabled or disable it, if your using other means as a firewall.

I have deleted the program files -> winmx folder
Turned off windows firewall
And opened up ports UDP 6257 for incoming and outgoing + TCP Port 6699 for incoming on the router,

I have given the PC a static LAN IP and made sure the above ports are forwarded to the correct IP.

When I start WinMX this error box still comes up and I am unable to connect, the box is a standard windows error grey box with a red X in but no error text at all, the only button is "ok"

Any more suggestions or ideas?

Sorry missed a line after "I have deleted the program files -> winmx folder" I should have said "Then reinstalled WinMX"

Just re done the connection wizard and the test passed so it can't be a firewall issue ??

Check your ports if they are properly forwarded there

Cheers :P

that there is what is known as "a very detailed error message"

what OS are you running?

if it just started doing it, it sounds like a windows update broke something - i have seen that blank message box and failing to connect only one other time, a windows 2003 system had some updates recently, they failed to install, and completely killed the system, so not sure how related that is (i'm sure you'd notice things like IE refusing to run etc, which were other symptoms of that problem)

Have you tried another version of WinMx maybe?

Just in case it IS something OS related, might be worth a try?

that's because the error occurred whilst loading the IE control for the update bar... no idea why WinMX does its loading in 2 stages like that but it does help with identifying an error being IE related or WinMX related.

well at least it's working i guess... what would probably be best is to simply see how it goes, if it crashes again then clear any incomplete downloads, disable anything like mxmonitor etc, and see if that solves it
