installing winmx 3.53
« on: September 26, 2005, 09:48:47 pm »
last week i could not connect to winmx and was to impatient to wait for a resolution. so i deleted winmx from my software and tried again to install.
it did not succeed. now i've read there is a patch to connect again.

i've donwloaded that patch but i cant reinstall winmx. always get a message that winmx cant make connection with the testserver.

anybody out there that can help with reinstalling winmx?

Make sure that the Hosts file is in place BEFORE you begin installations other wise WinMX wont finish its set up due to not being able to contact the new Peer Caches..

Also be sure that the Hosts file is in the correct location for your operating system.

Are you talking about when you run the winmx setup wizard and get to the tcp/udp port configuration? Under the test progress bar it says "If you are on a LAN or behind a firewall or broadband router and have mapped ports other than TCP6699 and UDP6257 you can save some time by pressing the 'manualy configure'button below".
Please select this option and match your TCP and UDP ports with those  you have allowed in your router and firewall[tcp6699/udp6257 are default]
Winmx setup wi zard test servers are still setup to ping off the old peer cache.
