Both users firewalled?
« on: April 07, 2007, 09:53:11 pm »
Another WinMX user and me are trying to exchange files but we keep getting the message "both users firewalled" and are unable to connect, even though both of us are not behind a firewall. Anyone has an idea what might cause this? Thank you!!!

This means your both connected through a firewall set to block winmx
the best way to solve this, is for one of you to disable your firewall, or forward ports for your winmx if a router is blocking it

For help forwarding ports you can visit this website: www.portforward.com

If this doesnt help, or you need further assistance, please message here again :)

Actually.. that message has nothing to do with a firewall.  It actually means that neither user has ports set in WinMX.  Settings > Incoming TCP is set to Unable and so is In/Out UDP.

WinMX assumes that both users must be behind a router or firewall and gives this message.  Its called Passive Secondary and WinMX does require one of the users to have ports set up in WinMX to allow a transfer.

You dont need to disable the firewall simply make sure WinMX is allowed in all firewalls, make sure ports are set in any routers or DSL Modems.  And most of all make sure that ports are set in the WinMX Settings mentioned above.  Dont forget about the XP Firewall if your on that as well.  Must be disabled or be configured as per instructions on the Firewall URL below.   Here are a couple guides on site to help too
