hi Helpthemupload,

First thing to find out is if you have a router or a DSL modem with built in router (many do) if you do then you will need to forward your ports for WinMX in it.  Here is a page with instructions on it and information:

https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/routers_info.html

Secondly will be to make sure that your Firewall and Antivirus is set to allow WinMX, if your unsure about this then post what your using and we can maybe guide you through it.
Here are some popular brands of firewall and the XP one, dont forget that one if your on XP.  Either configure it or disable it if you use other firewall.

https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/firewall.html

Let us know how you get on..

I turned off my pc to set a program I went back to WinMx and it has started timing out again. some are understandable I don't have the download completed myself. Some of the programs are complete and there timing out. My tcp and ucp ports are still set.  ?????

Jeff now when you say timing out.. do you mean they start then die.. or never start?

Start then time out and die is not a port problem its an ISP usually.. :S

If they are all timing out.. there is a chance that the Internet or Private IP that you used when making the rules got changed on the reboot.. if this is the case simply setting up a static ip would solve it happening in the future.  Then remake or edit your current rules in the router to show this correct IP.

I have norton Anti-virus. How can I check to see if it's OK since you mentioned it earlier?

Hi Jeff,

Usually Nortons is not a major problem unless you have version 2005 which has a 'worm protection' feature that acts like a firewall, if this is the case then users with this version will need to allow WinMX in that worm protection and the firewall both.

Did you follow my previous post instructions ?

"if this is the case simply setting up a static ip would solve it happening in the future."  I don't know how to set up static ip. Why do I have this problem. I've used WinMx before without thing like this.  I download they upload no problem?

Jeff,

Im not sure.. possibly you have differnt equipment now meaning a new Modem or router or maybe you have another device hooked up that is helping to change the IP.. etc.. basically I cant tell you why its happening now.. but here are the instructions for keeping it from happening in the future.

https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/static_ip.html

This will guide you through the static ip set up for XP.  Its not hard to do and will make sure your settings for your WinMX stay ..so..

When this is finished let me know how you get along.
