« on: April 16, 2007, 03:52:21 pm »
I have changed internet provider newley and for the first time in my life i was facing a modem with a router :o :(
i was surprised to see thath Winmx could not accept TCP all of a sudden!, i was pleased that i could connect still...untill i noticed thath i couldnt get any search results ore enter any chatrom, ore upload anything

so now you know what level im on when it comes to overall router knolledge, but i know that i must sett up ports for it somehow, and i need your extra help seens im not the brightest spike in the coffin!! "stepe by step" like some old 80:s group sang, that is what i need for my router exclusive?.. it feels

my modem is a Speedtouch 780 WL

http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Thomson-Alcatel/Speedtouch780v6/WinMX.htm

This is for version 6 which I think should be the one you have as you said your recently changed...
Even if it isn't, there are previous versions under "Thomson-Alcatel" in www.portforward.com which you can see ...

Cheers :P

Yes thanks it was the right version

Im now logged it at the router, i have choosen the 2 port values, and i have a static IP,
but im stuck at the last step the accual port forwarding in this guide, cauase i get an error
http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Thomson-Alcatel/Speedtouch780v6/WinMX.htm

i have 3 points at my agenda, easiest is thath if you just see any errors in my reasoning then shout to me!

1: i see that the values i choosed above is auto filling in the protocol field below, but leaves some blank, so as the pictures (not :D) sugesting i shall start with the TCP value in the first field right? ore opposite!
the protocol shall remain deafult sett to "Any" right?(no)
BUT shall i really leave "Triggered Port" just blank as the suggestion field allso says?

then apply

2: then i do it again, but with the UDP value

then i will klick "apply" to the right of the application name!!
and when doing so i get my error "Validation failed for profile, you have to change name, fix and try again"
i do understand thath i should have filled "protocoll" & "triggered port" even if the guide doenst said it, but tell me exactley what value should it be there?! me brain and right numbers doenst fit together :o

3: I saw that someone hade allready added  a Winmx with full port values in the application list inside the router, "position" whas sett to "server" well perhaps thath doenst concern me i dont know? (ignore this #3 if so)

hi Bla_Mocka,

Ok.. Your post is confusing me a bit .. Im not sure what your asking or telling me exactly so let me just sorta of guide you though this..

Once you get to the 'New Game or Application' screen, Put a dot into the Manual Entry of Port Maps radio button, then click the Next button.

Next you need to give your Application a Name, if you already see WinMX in the drop down box here then choose that, if not call it WinMX.  Under the Application Name is an area to enter your Protocol, Ports and Internatl Static IP.

Protocol=TCP   Ports=6699 - 6699    Internal Static IP=one you set previously.   Trigger Port settings= Leave these Blank or Default as WinMX WILL NOT WORK right with triggers set.
Click Add.

Next Add the UDP port values
Protocol=UDP   Ports=6257 - 6257   Internal Static IP=Same as above.  Trigger Port Settings=Same as above.
Click Add.

Click the Assign a game or application to a local network device link near the bottom of the page.
Use the Device box to choose your computer to forward ports to. This box contains a list of computer names that are visible on your network.
Select the application you created using the Game or Application drop down box. Then click Add to enable it.

(If you chose different port numbers then the ones above thats OK to use them instead.)

Good luck..

Internal Static IP=one you set previously

hmm..the problem seem to be thath only 5 letters/numbers are allowed in thath box?  my IP has no room to complete

Try using just the last digits

Exapmple:

192.168.1.101

You would use 101

try this with your last digits and let me know

Also this is very similar to the BT Home HUB firmware.. in which case.. you can leave that blank

Static IP     192.168.1.64

wich means mine "translates to" just "64" right?

i have tested this and i still get the message "Validation failed for profile, you have to change name, fix and try again"

this is how it looks

Protocoll         Port Range   Translate To...  Trigger Protocol  Trigger Port

TCP:             6699 - 6699       64 - 64                 -                        -

UDP:             6257 - 6257      64 - 64                 -                        -

Bla_Mocka because this  firmware is nearly identical to BT Home Hub, ive got a bit of experience with it..

I suggest you leave the Translate to..  Blank and try.  It was my original understanding looking at the guide on port forward that you needed your Internal IP there, however further reading on the BT guide on our site it says that this section is for more ports to be translated to and Id rahter you leave them blank.

Simply leave your TCP and 6699 - 6699  and UDP 6257 - 6257  then click add or apply.

Let me know

ok i tested to leave the IP of, and i just added TCP & UDP

the 2 messages i can get is still either

(1) "Validation failed for profile, you have to change name, fix and try again" (when trying to apply the profile)

(2) "Validation failed for startport, thath field is required, fix and try again" (if trying to add  moore after the 2 values)

router help files says "If you wanna create a dynamic rule a trigger for protocoll and port is required"  but on the other hand that doenst work on winmx you said, so what to do now?

This is just a shot in the dark... but the common error you keep
receiving is about changing the name... on your previous attempt that
was the only error message you recieved.Maybe the name you are
entering is too long.... currently your trying "dcplusplus".... try
shortening it to dc or dc++ and give your previous setting another
try.

the setting below gave you only the 1 error message:

Protocoll         Port Range   Translate To...  Trigger Protocol  Trigger Port

TCP:             6699 - 6699       64 - 64                 -                        -

UDP:             6257 - 6257      64 - 64                 -                        -

it won't hurt to try lol

it worked!! thanks all of you for the help! the transfer is now up and running :D

(i did a misstake, really embarrasing, but i made up my mind luckily)

i only experience one major problem, now when testing winmx, i cant make contact with my own profile, cant whois ore se my own share  inside the chat rooms, first time ever thath happends when not Open Nap, so i have a feeling the router is involved

any ideas? :)

It is possible that your router does not support loopback, that is, connecting to yourself via the internet...
So that's why nothing is coming up...

Just check if your uploads and dowload are ok and go here if you ever want to check your ports http://winmx.dnsalias.com:801/scan.py
If all is well, then there is nothing to worry about.

Cheers :P

It appears that it is possible to do that, I am not clear as to what exactly to do either. Hunt through your router for that option.
Best that someone who knows what that means tell you lol

start > run > "telnet 192.168.x.x" (whatever its IP Address is) then it should bring up either directly the command line, or it may prompt for a username/password, which will probably be the same ones you used to access it in your browser

I'm new to MINMX as well and I'm trying to establish a library of files to share, but when I get to the front of the Q
it turs red and I end up with nothing.  I have a primary connection, my ports are all open and the firewall is bypassed.
is there something I'm missing, or is it simply that I have no files in my library.  Thanks very much.
