:( I have installed and re-installed winmx...I've completed all the instructions on port forwarding. WinMX loads and says it is connected, but if I try to do a search or anything at all...it just hangs there...nothing happens. What am I doing wrong and how do I fix it[size=10pt

Hi Spurkay,

Maybe something is just a bit off somewhere in your configurations.. so if you dont mind going through it with us.. by first giving us a bit more detail about what you have on your system.

what operating system are you using?
What Version of Patch and WinMX do you have?  Does it say Patch Operational on top?
What Router or DSL Modem did you forward ports in?  Name and model please
What anitivrus do you have installed?
What firewalls do you use?

Give us a shout and we'll see if we cant help you work this out.

Check if your ports are ok there in the above link.
If not, then reforward the ports and try again...

Cheers :P
Reconnect to winmx with the blocking patch :)

Hi Amazing,

I'll ask you the same questions basically then as Spurkay, What patch are you using ie: does your update bar say Patch Operational?
Do you have a DSL Modem that you had to configure to allow ports for WinMX in? and if so.. have you ever done that?
And the firewall and antivirus programs you have installed?
Are you on primary or secondary?

How do you reconfigure your ports?

Please help!!  I fall in the same category as these folks...recently installed a new DSL modem.  I have XP with SP2, DSL connection that is primary, WinMX 3.54 - it says the patch is operational, no router used and no add ons.  I'm guessing I have an issue with ports??

look for your routers make/model on portforward.com and follow the instructions for forwarding the ports for it, many modems have built in NAT routers so need the ports forwarded

Can you help me out too, please?  I'm having the same problem.  Says I'm connected, patch operational, firewall disabled.  Running XP.  Searching does nothing - just hangs there "waiting for results".
Thanks a bunch!

CorePipes,
Do you have a DSL Modem or router?

If so, it will need to be configured to allow the WinMX Ports.  There are instructions for most models of modem and router on portforward.com  if you have never done this before you can have a look at our guide here to get started.

I am having the same problems. I went to portforward.com and there was no listing for my router:
packet 8: broadband phone gateway: BPG510. I had a sunrocket router before and had the same problem. I followed ya'lls step by step program and fixed the problem. Thanks. Now can you help me again?

Ok Sawdust,

Ive looked up the user guide for your model and it seems simple enough.. (best laid plans and all..)  Give this a try..

First you will need the Internal IP that the gateway as assigned the PC using WinMX.  To get this information do the following.
Click Start > Run> type in        cmd
Then click OK
A Black box should appear and you should type         ipconfig
And hit the Enter Key.

Listed here will be several IPs, make a note of the one listed as 'IP Address'  This will be similar to the Gateway Address but the last digits are different.  Write this down.

Now close that box and move on to the gateway configuration

Type the IP address of your BPG510’s into the address bar of your web browser.
The default IP address of your BPG510 is 192.168.88.1. Then press the ENTER
key. You will be prompted to enter a password (the default password is admin).

You should now see the your BPG510’s System Information Screen

From the list on the left choose LAN, This should then  give you a submenu located under it and you should see Port Forwarding listed now, click that.
Now the guide I have is not real specific about this, but you may see a button on the main screen now to 'Add Custom Ports' Or Add Custom service, or you may just see places where you can enter your port numbers, Protocol, and IP to LAN.  Basically get yourself to where you see this screen that allows you to add information.

Ive provided a screen shot from the manual below.

Remember you will need to do this twice.
6699 - 6699  TCP   192.168.88.?? (Your IP Address you made note of here)
6257 - 6257  UDP   192.168.88.?? (That Same IP Address you made note of here)

Now click the add button to the right of this line as you get this info added.

That should be all you need to do for the modem itself.. as usual make sure your firewalls are configured to allow WinMX also. and that in your WinMX Settings > Incoming TCP = top option and port 6699  &  In/Out UDP = top option and port 6257.  Then restart WinMX.

Here is the URL to the guide i used

Hi:   Mine was working fine until yesterday.  The "patch is operational" is gone from the task bar.  I updated my Spybot search and destroy sypware.  I get a message that 'winmx is behind a passive firewall.  You suggestion for a fix?
thxs.

In certain configurations anti spyware software (including spybot if the tea timer function is used) has been known to remove the hosts entry for the update bar, this makes absolutely no difference to either the patch or winmx working, as long as you see the splash screen when you first start winmx, your patch is installed & working.

The firewall message is probably misleading, in your place the first thing i'd do is look up your modem/router at www.portforward.com & if it's listed run through the portforwarding instructions there for winmx.
Blessed is he who expecteth nothing, for he shall not be disappointed.
