cannot connect to certain users
« on: April 23, 2007, 08:26:32 am »
Hi,
There are certain people, the same two really, everytime.  One ALWAYS has 6 of 6 available, when I try to download from him/her (gogga) I just time out, everytime.  The other is called Buster, this person always has a queue, but whenever I try to download from them I timeout everytime.  They both have DSL connections as have I.  You expect it to happen now and again, but NOT everytime.
My next bit is about the Load Incomplete button, is there any chance of moving it away from the Search button?  I have over 2000 incomplete files, and when I accidentally click the WRONG button it takes forever to get them all cleared again.

Excellent prog, good help.  Thanks

KM

erm, well if it's only the same 2 users you keep having a problem with, then it would seem extremely likely that it would happen every time, and would indicate something set up incorrectly (probably them having broken winmx configurations with inbound connections blocked but set as allowed is the first guess), if it's only those 2 users then it is almost certainly those 2 with a problem, especially one that always has all slots free (the other could have a problem, but also have so many people trying to get files that a queue forms for users timing out)

and erm, did you consider deleting some of the incompletes? especially if they aren't even loaded in to winmx at all and just sit there doing nothing (although trying to have that many in winmx would be a bad idea anyway)

this may be taken as being unhelpful, that isn't actually my intention, but have you considered playing lots of games of minesweeper? i'm not being a silly as it first appears, Microsoft included both that & solitaire as "mouse excercises" solitaire for gross mousecontrol & minsweeper as "fine" mouse control (practice hitting small buttons accurately)

I also had about 1800+ files which I queued up from a source (speeches) What I did was download about 50 of them and then clear all of them. Then move them into seperate folder (either in the incompletes folder or some other) and until I had all 1800 of them. Then I'd download them in batches of 30 each. When 20,25 were done, I'd bring the next set of 30 files... Opening so many files even in explorer might be a pain. I again put them into folders with 300 files each...
Hope this helps

In any case, suppose you wanted to start just one incomplete out of so many, it'd be a real pain.

In my case loading 500 files crashed winmx lol...

Cheers :P

My trouble is, I queue a lot of the same file, just in case the 1st I do download is corrupt or something worse.  Then I forget to delete the others when I do get a good file.  ?????

If you use the winmxgroup, fake results are automaticially filtered and thus there is no need to queue up more than one. Queeu the source who is green and wait for the download to finish.
Sit for an hour and delete them or else there can be problems, like when you click the load incompletes button

Cheers :P

its not fakes I'm bothered about it the crap quality that some people insist on sharing.  I often wonder if they ever look at, or listen to any of the files that they share ?????
