Download Problem
« on: May 01, 2007, 11:52:35 pm »
Hi - I'm back with the same problems.  Everytime a change a proxy or port setting, it works for a while and then stops working.  I am using DSL with standard Windows Service Pack 2 firewall.  I just tried the chat room and some a-hole booted me because he kept asking to copy and paste text that could not even be highlighted.  I am not a supreme techy, but I do know how to copy and paste text.  Gimme a break.  He thought I was a spy for WinMX or something.

Anyway, I continue to have this problem.  I am using a secondary connection and it always seems to get me connected.  I am For outgoing, I do not use a proxy server.  For incoming, I have checked that I am unable to accept incoming TCP connections.  This has always seemed counter-intuitive to me but it has worked.

After a brief period of functionality, at some point, I am unable to download followed by an inability to search.

Any help is appreciated.  THX

Have you also tried unable to accept in/out UDP?  ie Both settings at unable?  This isn't really a satisfactory setup as it disables transfers with anyone set the same way, but winmx will at least function until the reason you cannot accept either is determined & corrected.
In about 90% of cases this is down to needing to forward/map ports through a modem/router & the remaining 10% specifically allowing ports or the program in security software (firewalls & norton worm protection for example).

this suggests some sort of problem with your connection, have you looked in the event log for anything suspicious occuring at the time it stops working?

I'd also like to add here RL64,

From your statements about the help room i suspected that you went into one of the MXPie rooms or the Vladd help room.  Ive checked our logs for your IP to be sure and your IP has not visited our room.  Im sorry for how they treat users in there and you would certainly not be abused like that in our help room located here:

WinMXWorld.com Help_A06F7657BABE

Your not the only person to be abused in that room here is a thread about such on the site if your interested in the way they 'help' ppl..

https://forum.winmxworld.com/index.php?topic=4566.0.html

I might suggest also this means your possibly using the Pie patch?  What does your update bar say up top?  This could be some of the problem with the disconnections and unusablity.

Thank you Me.  I do not see an "update bar" but I am using version 3.53.  It's funny that you mention the pie patch because yes, I did use that.  I also have the pie updater which has never worked properly, perhaps because I didn't have WinMX open at the time?  And thank you for your comment about the chat room.  While I'm sorry that those people need to act like that, I am gald I am not the only one to have problems.  At least I know it's them and not me...

Hey RL1964.

Your update bar is probably blank white at the moment it makes it hard to know its an 'update bar'.. its located just below the WinMX v3.53 and your online or primary status in the title bar and just above the Networks, Chat, Library buttons.

The fact yours is blank and your reporting problems and have used the pie auto updater.. here is my suggestion.

1. uninstall the pie stuff, should be located in the Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.
2. Uninstall PGLite if you have it on the sytem.
3. go to this url and download and save to the PC, the file called Various WinMX Versions and Patch:  https://www.winmxgroup.com/downloads.html
4. Install this patch and WinMX being sure to choose your current 3.53 version when asked.
5. Restart WinMX and see how things go, its possible that you may still have issues and we may need to work on those but we at least know that with the above file and patch you wont be finding fakes and be getting disconnected from the network due to fake files and fake flooders' DDOS attacks.

Let us know...

When I do the search and I find the song that I want, It will not down load.  It say "waiting for network reply and it never down loads.  Can you tell me if what I need to set so that it will find the network and download the song?

Thanks

Hi cbcheno

Most of the time when this happens to users frequently its because the file your finding is a fake.  There is a easy fix however.

Make sure your using the current Patch from WinMX Group.

If your using WinMX v3.54 beta 4 then go to this page:   www.winmxgroup.com
Download the one on the home page there that says 'Download WinMX Now!'

If your using an older version of WinMX like v3.53 then you need to click on the link near the top left called 'Downloads' and get the file named:  Various WinMX Versions + Patch.

Install that and then try new searches.  Its a good idea to get rid of any incompletes you have 0% of now as those are more then likely fake.

When I go to that page, it say for VISTA USERS TO CLICK HERE.  Should I use that one since I now have Vista on my new computer?

WOW!  I can't believe that I never thought of the fake downloads b4.  I downloaded with the patch and the first 2 I tried didn't work.  I realized that it was the same person and tried another one and it worked!  Thanks so much.  I wonder if that was my problem al along.  What do people gain by posting fake downloads.  Are they capturing my IP?

RL1964,

Glad things are going better for you now.  as for the fakes.. what happens is there are fake users, they are not real ppl, although the industries that do this use software that can imitate a real person.. hundreds of real users to be exact.  They use names that look semi real to make things harder for regular users.. the problem is the WinMX Group system blocks them by IP so you just simply never see those results after the new patch install.

They are not at this time collecting any IP or personal information from users that we are aware of, we do monitor for such activity and would inform all if we ever see this.
