Not Connecting????

Have been using WinMX for years and never really had too many problems. Connected alright 2 days ago but now am unable to connect.
I am on Windows XP, my firewall is configured right. Like I say I have had no problems connecting in the past.
Is there a problem with the WinMX network or am I going to have to re-download the current version (currently using WinMX v3.54 beta 4)

I'm aware of no issues with connecting generally, if you feel redownloading winmx in case it or the patch have developed some problem on your machine, you will do no harm

Have re-downloaded winmx and still had problems....
Have since found out that I am having internet connection problems and that this is not a winmx problem

It could well be your ISP (in fact it probably is), tiscali use the same censorship systems used in china to control what you are and aren't allowed to access, and during the evenings and weekends they don't let you access many things - winmx is one of those things

i believe tiscali let you have access to the internet from around 2am to about midday, although i'm not sure the exact times

I didn't know if thats the problem, because I'm not by Tiscalli. My provider is T-Online.
Your Patch does not work?
If I use the Patch of Mx-Pie or Vladd, WinMx work. But with the MX-Pie-Patch I've got a lot of fakefiles.
I can try to connect primary or secondary....no connect.
Why I have no connect with your patch?

are you running peer guardian? that blocks the peer caches claiming that a p2p network operator, that is actively fighting against anti-p2p groups (one of the only ones who is btw) is "anti-p2p"... kinda twisted excuse for logic there

although a cache is kept running on a dynamic IP Address (which bluetack are unable to block as their system is so slow, it is just as unusable against the flooders on dynamic IP Addresses) so if it was simply that you should still be able to connect it would just take a little longer

also of course assuming you removed any stuff you installed from their sites? (the pie one isn't too dangerous they just make you screw up your connection with peer guardian, but the stuff vladd installs on your system is a serious piece of malware that you really need to remove ASAP, especially if you ever plan to use the computer for anything sensitive such as shopping online or online banking)

although the above would cause problems, it shouldn't cause you to be completely unable to connect

the only case I am aware of where a user has been able to connect with a modified hosts file but not with the patch was a single user where it took several hours to figure out that actually the network settings on the computer were all screwed up and it had no DNS servers set, the reason it took so long to figure out was because it was a dedicated winmx only computer and nobody had ever tried loading a website or anything on it to notice (of course it took so long because everyone was assuming that webpages etc loaded fine without asking, making the assumption that the user would have noticed that)... does everything else work fine from that system?

you could also check in winmx settings under outgoing TCP Connections and make sure it is set to not use a proxy server, although it's unlikely that it has been enabled by mistake it is at least possible and worth checking

by default the winmxgroup patch installer upgrades your winmx version at the same time as installing unless you already manually upgraded yo 3.54b4, when this happens many firewalls (including windows firewall) will then block the changed .exe in case it was modified by viruses etc.. try removing all firewall rules for winmx before upgrading, so that it will askif winmx should be allowed, or if you have our patch installed already, remove the winmx rules, hit apply, then re-create them..

I believe Tiscali (UK) let you have full access between midnight and 5pm they class 5pm till 11pm as peak times.
I have just come off Tiscali and had good downloads all day then was reduced to 1K/bs at 5pm and was kicked out completely at 7pm
