connection problems

I've  bought a new computer with Vista.  Before I downloaded winmx my firewall prompt me to allow me to install winmx. Now that it's installed, I keep getting a message that I need to download winmx servers and when I click on the link to take me to the site it keeps telling me that I'm unable to go to the site.  My internet works fine, I'm really confused as to what I'm doing wrong.  Please help.

Hi Yeya,

Im not really sure what you mean by 'download winmx servers'.. I really hope you didnt purchase WInMX from anywhere or anything.. in any case here is what you need to do

Get WinMX from here (or reinstall please)

www.winmxgroup.com 

Now once its installed you'll need a patch that is designed for Vista users to help with some issues they have staying connected as secondary users.  It is here:

Its attached to the post near the bottom .. as well an attachment.  Download and run that.

Hi,
I  uninstalll  WinMx tried downloading winmx from the link you provided and when I try to run it, I get a message that says The publisher could not be verified WinMx setup: Error opening file for writing. C:/ program files winMx/winMx.exe.  Click abort to stop the installation, Retry to try again, which I already did or ignore to skip this file.  I was able to download the patch with no problem but now I can't run the application.

It sounds first of all like microsoft is whinning about the fact that WinMX Group has not paid a load of money to be specially licensed by them to have software.. in other words its not important.. just something microsoft does to try to get money out of all ppl.. :S

So about installing.. be sure your WinMX is closed completely before you install

before u install the new go to search files and folders type winmx delete anything that shows if u got a dodgy wimx in the first instance it may be corrupting the new always do a clean install :lol:

Yeya, this is a windows security setting you've hit, i don't think it's the default one, as more would run into it if it was, first try the easy method & save the installer to your desktop rather than picking run from current location..

If that fails, somewhere there will be a setting to allow installs that aren't digitally signed (i'm not sure where, i'm not a vista user) but i'd advise changing it from block (or whatever it is now) to "prompt" in which case this & any other installers you download that aren't signed, will put up a similar message, but it will have the option to "continue install anyway" (or similar) & this is what you need to do..

vista always gives the initial security alert whenever you run something released by someone who hasn't paid a huge (i believe it's something along the lines of £400/year) "licensing fee" to get microsofts permission to make software (and you wonder why people call microsoft a monopoly, they even dictate who is and isn't allowed to make competing software!)

the second warning sounds like you have winmx running so it can't overwrite it... close winmx and click retry (failing that reboot to make sure it's closed and try again)
