ITunes Tracks Privacy Danger

When the announcement came of DRM free music downloads, folks thought Apple was making a stand for the consumer, how very wrong they where.

The launch of music tracks free of digital locks on iTunes has been overshadowed by the discovery that they contain data about who bought them.
Some fear this data could be used to identify the owner of the tracks, if they turn up on file-sharing sites.

The tracks from record company EMI cost more and are of a better quality than standard iTunes songs.

Apple has yet to comment on what it plans to do with the information embedded in the music files.

Not being a user of this service I cant say for certain where the info is stored but its likely to be in the !D3 tag area and should take all of a few seconds to remove, this is a disappointing display of underhand trickery as far as I,m concerned, I hope you all join me in condemning these sort of stealth tactics when dealing with consumers.

Vorbis is my favorite... tho i dont think it will be long till someone finds the data and makes a program to remove it so that a format conversion isnt needed...

after all... converting between lossy formats is a bad idea regardless of which they are... esp if you payed for it...

Nice find Rock  8)

So while it seems EMI are happy to deliver the goods in a consumer friendly way the US monopolist Warner is running and hiding from doing the right thing, lets hope they lose a lot of revenue and learn the error of trying to steal the consumers traditional rights.
