Strange patch that is offered in the WinMX info line
« on: July 03, 2007, 10:49:54 am »
Hello :)

In the last few days I'd trouble to connect to WinMX. On some days it worked and on some not :? On the internet page of winmxworld I found the solution with changing the "hosts" file. As I figured out, the old hosts file had 1 KB of size and the new one 3 KB. Today it says "A Patch is avialable" for WinMX in the info line. I downloaded and installed this so called "patch". What happened, was, that the 3 KB hosts file became changed to another hosts file with 1 KB again. Result: My WinMX didn't connect to the Peer network anymore as before  :x I dropped this change and returned to the former 3 KB hosts file with which everything works fine for me again 8) What was meant with this patch, and why did it fail

Hi the hostfile is hosted by myself. It was a temp fix that was requierd just to get you conecting. The problem now is that hostfile is obslete in the fact that it isnt providing you will full blocking and fake file filtering, You really need to update to the new file that is hosted here.

https://www.winmxworld.com/tutorials/connection.html

This has all the latest cache entrys in and doesnt use your hostfile.
The blocking works but thier may be a small deley in connecting, the reason for this is that the caches are still updating after the closure of winmxgroup.

Thanks for using my hostfile fix but you will eventually find it will not work. After installing the new patch if you are still having problems please visit

Ah, thanks for your quick response :D

I'm afraid it was my mistake, because the default installation folder in the setup of your hosts file was different from the folder where I installed WinMX

I browsed to the right folder and installed your update again.

Now it's working fine with me, and WinMX connects again without a long delay

Can someone please clarify, is it correct that the latest (July 3) patch should result in only the following addition to my hosts file:

87.118.110.160   www.winmx.com

?

Thanks to everyone for their dedication to keeping this working.

You need to install the ptch from her for blocking to be restored. If you have done that, then I think all should be well

The reason for that entry is so that the updatebar in winmx world alright. Purely a thing to make winmx look better

Cheers :P
Reconnect to winmx with the blocking patch :)
