I can't seem to get the excellent Port Scanner which used to be at http://winmx.dnsalias.com:801/scan.py

Is this one of the casualties of the recent Winmx problems?

It's working again. You can also use this url: http://winmx.dnsalias.com/scan/scan.cgi

Ah - just used it and had a different reading from usual -
" UDP port 6257 seems open but could be stealthed. So, searches and chatroom listings 'should' be okay."

Not met this before - i haven't changed anything here, firewall, router settings etc - so anyone any ideas why the "stealthed"? Usually it has just shown Open for both with no reservations.

Don't rely too much on the UDP scans as UDP can't be checked properly. It's a one way connection. The scanner I use has some tricks up it's sleeve to try and force a response. Unfortunately it's hit and miss most of the time. The new message is just reporting the scanner got a response by using these tricks but certain routers or firewalls reply even if the port is closed. Those would be classed as stealthed ports.

Thanks. What you said is exactly right, I think, because I tried the scan 2 minutes later and got the usual "Open" message. Being  a bit unreliable isn't a problem really, it's such a useful thing to have anyway ! Saves me having to burrow into my router to check the ports are open.
