trading with dsl users
« on: July 05, 2007, 10:46:44 pm »
I have a highspeed cable connection and am having problems sharing with dsl users. If I'm just receiving a transfer from a dsl user my speed is fine, but if i do a one on one trade with same, both of our bandwidths go down to single digits, usually with me battling to stay above 0 and the dsl i'm trading with just as low. If  I try to remedy this with the upload throttle to my benefit, my speed barely changes and the dsl i'm trading with goes to crap. If I benefit the dsl trader his speed goes way up and mine zeros out. The changes I'm speaking of here are small -one 0 or less-. where does our collective bandwidth go, and why isn't available to us? This happens even if I only have one exchange going. Like I stated above, this does not occur if the exchange is one sided, ie. I'm the only one downloading or uploading.

does not matter  wot  isp is  ie dsl / 56k  / adsl

it depends on if the other person ports are config and your ports are config aswell
allso if there have bandwidth throttles set in settings  under  bandwidth throttle
ect which would mean  slowing down the d/l   or u/l  and if there max out on d/l s  u/ls which would mean your d/l be very slow

allso trading files   plp dont like trading   bit froned on with file sharers   its free so why not get it free    type of thing

The problem with sharing is. no one will share without sametype trade. I used to passively wait and got disconnected everytime i got to the front of the queue. there's even ignorant folks who have the nerve to disconnect a downloader even after the dler has started a file the disconnecter wanted. it's dog eat dog in there

I know and have understood what you're saying for quite some time. but the situation i spoke of is chronic when sharing with dsl users. The only way your explanation would work is if all dsl users are fundamentally dishonest and greedy. I'm sorry but I don't believe that. as soon as a dsl user enters my uploads all connections -including other user's- speed goes to crap but the dsl user gets stronger no matter what I do to control them with the throttles. The dsl user always gets more speed than anyone else but always gives the least back. honest I'm not kidding

hi Axron,

Okay frist of all this at first glance sounds like ISP  throttling thats gone haywire.. but you do say its only on a one to one connection.  So.. first of all im not sure your understanding about the bandwidth throttle.. i think your speaking of the right click option .. so your throttles must have a limit set in Outgoing..

Im not sure how you set up your outgoing bandwidth throttle but just for shits and giggles .. Id like you to go to this page with WinMX off
https://www.winmxworld.com/scripts/bandwidth/

Let the test run and set your Outgoing bandwidth throttles according to its recommendations.

Then I'd like you to not mess with the settings of the right click throttles and see what happens.  If your still having issues come by the help room and talk to one of us there.. with DSL.  Give them the link to this post if you dont want to try to explain again.  And lets do a test with known working.. configured DSL users to rule out.

I for one know that ISPs when they are throttling p2p usage always pick on WinMX, they also can have certain users on certain ISPs that they have no problems with and most others are complete crap.. so what your saying doesnt make you crazy.. but actually finding a reason could make you wish you were.. lol

Come by the room if you want and we'll see if anything flags up..

I've seen that happen with dsl traders too! I think it's your cable provider that's initiated bandwidth throttling if it happens with dissimilar dsl networks. Also I've noticed that some dsl traders are throttled during peak hours in the evening, but regain full bandwidth after midnight.
