Trust a politician who has virtually no chance of ever heading a government to attack many of his own supporters after no doubt accepting a "donation" from the anti filesharing lobby.

Some ISPs claim there is nothing they can do to stop illegal downloading of music.

ISPs can block access and indeed close down offending file-sharing sites.
They have already established the Internet Watch Foundation to monitor child abuse and incitement to racial hatred on the internet.
They should be doing the same when it comes to digital piracy.

The second challenge I want to talk today is how we can protect your investments in the long-term.

The music industry has done so much in making all manner of music from any decade available to everyone.
And if we expect you to keep investing, keep innovating, keep creating….
… it is only right that you are given greater protection on your investments by the extension of copyright term.
After all, PWC found that extending copyright term could boost the music industry by £3.3 billion over the next fifty years.

Mr Cameron of course neglects to make clear this 3.3 billion will be coming from selling the public something they already will own under existing laws, but lets look deeper at his message a long way down the speech.

That's why I want to work with you to combat piracy and illegal downloading.
That's why I want to extend the copyright term to 70 years.
But in return, I want to see more from you….
… using the influence you have over young children to help fix our broken society.

So it seem he wishes them to use their influence in helping him and he offers his influence in helping them, all very cosy, you'll all notice the public dont even figure in this guys schemes except as milkable consumers, after all a copyright is protected only for a fixed time and has been respected as such, creating new laws that hand over the publics rights of free access to any copyright expired work is theft from the public and fraudulant in my eyes.

yeah but where not taking expired copyright, forgive me if im barking up the wrong tree,

illegal downloading is becomming a problem everywhere, and we have to see whats comming, someone releases a new album, and around 20 million or so people dnload it and only a few thousand buy it, they arnt gunna keep making music for us to keep stealing are they? there'll be nothing in it for them, ok, so we say "well there rich they can afford to, a few $$$$'s is peanuts to them", but there money will eventualy run out, the only real way they can make some money now is in touring, and then the artist actually has to be ablwe to sing (not mime or sound like cack) sing or touring wont work and they wont be able to make enough money to keep producing music...

im not saying i dont download, because i do.. all the time.. but the government are going about stopping people downloading the wrong way, just tryina cacth n sue everyone ain't working but the price of new Cd's give people no choice... thing is these days, everyone has to make a profit, people get greedyer, and want more so people go else where (get it most likely illegally) and the big fat rich people dont like it..

see the problem?

No not really I see greedy and corrupt music companies merely spending more of their excessive profits to try to steal something that will rightfully belong to the public.

Your claims of no one purchasing any decent music are ridiculous as its been proved time and again with many studies that those who enjoy filesharing of music actually purchase 6 times the amount non filesharers do, something you seem to have overlooked, probably afer reading too many industry lies.

I found out about many great artists and bands through p2p and many more which turned out to be crap.

Also I'd like to point out one thing. Usually the number of people who buy cds and albums are increasing if not static but at the same time, nondecreasing. Aniron maiden fan will buy all albums ever released by them even if he heard them on the internet. But the number of people who have access to high speed internet is increasing at an exponential rate. Hence the number of people downloading is too.

So hence the descrepncy in the numbers. Possibly a decent pecentage of those who download are actuallynew to the band/artist

Cheers :P
